Can anyone tell me are there any glaringly obvious signs when your girl has delivered her last puppy of the litter my girl is due to deliver in the next couple of days and I want to be sure that I know when she has delivered her last puppy so that I can get the vet up to just check her out post whelp I know that you can wait up to 2 hours between puppies.

No, and I know of a bitch who had a C section, and then went on to deliver a puppy 36 hours later.

Our girl had 11 pups last year, she had been scanned with 12, she delivered in 4 and a half hours start to finish, we still expected the 12th for a while, but after a couple of hours when she was settled with pups we just kind of realised there wasn't going to be another :-)
My puppy was the last to be born in her litter, 4 hours after her brothers and sisters. The vet told her breeder that it was either a retained placenta or a dead puppy - well my girl is nearly 5 months old and anything but dead!

I can only speak from what my bitch done, but her panting was alot less than what it had been and if you feel the tummy I could feel as all pups were moving down they felt like tennis balls in the tummy, when she had 3 left I could feel that she had 3 if that makes sense, she is a large breed
Thanks, I cant wait Im hoping it will be later today!!!
:) she showing signs ?....good luck and keep us posted we love to know when pups are arrived safe and sound :)

In my first litter a live puppy was born around 28 hours later. I was inexperienced then and a very old breeder friend of mine was with me who I now know did not use the vet unless absolutely necessary. Now I know different and have them checked out as soon as possible after I think she is settled and as has been said panting lessens and they "feel" a bit empty. Difficult one but be safe rather than sorry. I did n't, but could have lost that puppy or my bitch.
Good luck Diane

Yes i always get mine checked out with the vet, some females seem to go quiete and look like they have finished, even when there is 1 puppy left inside her, i'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hi the puppies arrived on Monday night between 8pm and midnight 6 beautiful chunky puppies!!!! 4 boys one is a very cheeky boy and 2 girls!! One of which we are keeping!!! I rang the breeder whos stud she had been to to ask advise shes very experienced and told me exactly what to look for which was to palpate her flanks to see if you can feel anything she should feel very empty and snuggle down contentedly with her pups which she did. I had also informed the vet of her impending birth and was given an out of hours number to ring just in case. I am still keeping a close eye on her with regard to running a temp and discharge and will have her checked by the vet when I can tear her away from her pups and she has settled down a bit more she is still a bit hyper but not panting as much but still doing a lot of digging at the min dont want the vet coming to the house unless absolutely necessary at the moment and whilst she looks ok dont want to introduce any unecessary bugs ect to the pups!!! But will have her checked by the vet as soon as.
