I have just purchased a further supply of Vetmedin tablets from my vet and was quite shocked at the recent price rise (now £33 for 100 tablets).  I checked on-line and I could get them a fair bit cheaper but, of course, I would need a prescription. As my vet charges £11.75 for prescriptions, I probably wouldn't make much of a saving.  Out of interest would you say this an average charge for a vets signature on a piece of paper ?

£10 plus vat and of course £30 consultation fee if they haven't seen you in a while!! :)

Would the vet write out a prescription for a larger quantity of tablets so that you could then buy online and not have to pay out so much so often?

When I was buying Vivitonin for Charlie I used to get 3 months supply on one prescription and made quite a considerable saving. I think 3 months is the maximum my Vet will do.

Yes I'd ask for a larger supply of tablets on the one prescription if I were you in order to save more.  I'm lucky in that my vets don't charge for prescriptions....yet.

I used to buy Metacam 100 ml from my vet and it cost £47 a bottle (a few years ago), you can buy this online for £21 a bottle and free postage.

I now buy Metacam 180ml online for £29.79, (don't know what the vets charge), but I have 3 bottles on the prescription, and the prescription charge is £12, if my dog has seen the Vet within 3 months, I can get the prescription without her seeing him. This amount usually lasts her for 6 months or more.

my vet charges £2.50 for a prescription and will do one with repeats for up to 6 months depending on what for.

My vet don't give out more than 2 months worth of meds or a prescription for more than 2 months worth and you have to be seen every 6 months. Our presription charge is around £6.80
