My daughter has begun to look for a staffordshire bull terrier pup. There are so many breeders that it is very difficult to know which ones are reuputable. She has contacted a couple of breeders off the champdogs breeder section and they have agreed to put her on their list, their pups will have all the relevant health tests but  neither of them have asked her any questions or asked to meet her. If I can just tell you a bit about her. She has been brought up around dogs all her life and has owned a sbt before, she is at home all day and is able and very keen to train and socialise her pup properly. She lives with her partner (soon to be husband) who will be sharing the training.  They will not want to show but want a new family member to make the house feel like home again after losing their dog to mammary cancer. Can someone please point her in the right direction of what to be looking for etc. Many thanks.

Very disappointing that they have just put her on their lists with no questions at all? I don't understand it and can see why you are confused. I'm confused. I would still plod away on the champdogs site and try other breeders, or get in touch with the breed clubs you'll get a good quality Staff that way. :-)

Will pass that on to her.

No the breeders didnt ask any questions apart from whether she wanted a dog or a bitch and then e mailed to say she was added to the list.

I have found the numbers for the breed clubs and have already advised her to contact them. Thank you for your reply.

I have passed on all the advice about looking for a new pup that I have learned from this forum but it is such a minefield and I just want help her make the right choice.

Absolutely agree with Carrington. I myself would never sell a puppy without meeting the people involved. Selling by phone or email is not what I'm about and I imagine its pretty much the same for all good breeders.
Breed clubs are great because they have rules/codes of ethics etc that their breeders have to stick to.

hello,
what area does your daughter live ?
she might like to go to the next breed show in her area and meet people and see if any dogs / bitches catch her eye so to speak,
and then take from there,
let me know area and il add list shows nearest to you for her to visit
good luck

I would get her to ring some of the SBT Clubs.
They will know where the breeders with the right temperament are.

I too am looking for a high quality well bred Stafford pup after losing both my boys to age in the last 8 months (aged 14 an 12) - it is disheartening to see so many people uncontrollably breeding this most wonderful of dogs (IMHO!), masquerading as responsible breeders - I look on in interest at any advice offered to you - good luck.
