Topic Dog Boards / Showing / SKC May & Camping

Hi,
I've never camped at a show before but my friend and I are wanting to stay for SKC May all 3 days, showing on the 1st Day, obedience on 2nd & agility on 3rd.

Can anybody who's stayed there in the past give me some info about it? I don't have a caravan so we will just have awning at the side of my van & a tent & some fencing round our pitch

Ta :)

I've never camped at Ingliston, but I live 5 mins away and walk my dogs there occasionally. Caravans and tents are usually pitched on the south west corner of the showground, you have permanent portacabin type toilets and showers. There's not much in the way of food around when the showground is closed, a couple of hotels and one bistro (good but expensive) within walking distance, anything else you'd have to drive. What did you want to know?

We stayed at SKC last year along with Paignton, Bournemouth and Driffield.  SKC site is very nice with tarmac roads all the way round so if it's wet you're just a few steps away from a pathway.  They have a permanent showerblock and loos but we've never used them as we have a shower etc in the caravan.  We stay for the whole week, will be back again in May and August. pm me if you have any questions. Forgot to say it's quite a short walk to the showground.

Food wont be a problem.
More info about the ground conditions for the camping area, I remember 2 years ago for SKC Aug all the out door rings were moved inside as the ground was that bad from the rain but is the camping area different to the grass show area?

The reason the ground at the showground was so bad was because the Royal Highland Show had been on earlier.  The ground at the campsite is much better.

Thanks for the info, sounds like we will be ok to camp in a tent then, just didn't want to sink ha ha!
Think we will defo go for it :)
If anything it will be an experience and cheaper than hotels or B&B's!

We'll all have to pray for dry weather for a few weeks leading up to the show.  I too hope you don't sink!!!!

Forgot to ask i am assuming there is an Electric hook up point? :)

Camping in Scotland in May will be FREEZING, i wouldnt like to stay in a tent for a few days tbh, a bit diff with a caravan but i honestly wouldnt advise going out with just a tent! You should be able to get cheap B&B, i think it would ruin your week there if you camped.

Don't think so, not at SKC.  Have seen one or two tents there, mostly caravans and motorhomes.  Our caravan has radiators so we're nice and toasty, plenty of bedding and I'm sure you'll be fine!!!!!

if there are electric hook ups just take a fan heater, a tent soon warms up

Pretty sure there are no hook ups at SKC, there are some over in the distance from the caravan site but it's all fenced off.

oops might be a generator job (if they allow them) or thermal underwear me thinks
- By Henri3402 [gb] Date 25.03.10 07:31 UTC
Yes SKC allow generators as do all other show sites we've visited, at the very few with hook ups they are limited.  Generators are needed when in a field!!!!! as some others are pretty basic.

We stay at SKC every year and really enjoy it. The ground has always been firm, you walk down to the showground. Every pitch is marked out and you have to stay within the boundaries, stops people taking over the place. There are no electric H/U's but generators are allowed up to a certain time in the evening. There are plenty of places to run the dogs and if you like aeroplanes, you get some great views !  The toilets and shower block are fine, as with all places, they close for cleaning. It can sometimes be windy so make sure you are strapped down well.

Yes, you're right about the wind, storm straps needed at all times!
