Hello, hope some of you can help me here.
Brothers dog 'Daisy' the most gorgeous 6 yr old Scottish Terrier is due a season on the 25th Dec (great timing eh). He's not had her very long (6weeks). She's had 3 litters to our knowledge. 3 weeks ago she had an op for bladder stones which she is fully recovered. The thing is, she has a swollen tummy which is not causing any problems to her as far as we can see. Could this be a symptom of a pending season,also, today we noticed that she has a different smell to her.
However, at the risk of sounding thick and not having ever seen worms in poo before i would like to know what they look like. Brother says he thought he'd seen what could have been worms but he's same as me and has not ever seen them before.

He decribed what he saw as follows,
Long white/cream stringy things. I asked if he'd seen her rubbing her bottom along the ground, he says no.
I know a swollen tummy is a sign of worms but just needed some advice. Did buy some wormer today called Drontal Plus. Can he give it to her even if he's not sure about it being worms. Look forward to advice.

Sounds like roundworm. Drontal is [from what i've heard] one of the best wormers. i'm pretty sure it's fine to give to her even if she doesn't have them for certain. It's recommended that dogs are wormed somewhere in the region of four[ish] times a year anyway.

I would worm her, for an adult dog to have an enlarged stomach from them is unusual , but I would worm her any way and then take her to the vets if the tummy looks no better the next day. Get the worming tablet from the vet.

Swollen tummy could also be swelling from the surgery or a post-operative infection. I would have her checked by the vet ASAP.

Hi worm the pups on Panacur which is a 3 day course wormer, and the older dogs have Drontal plus every 6 months

If she has a swollen stomach and a strange smell then it "could" be a post-operative problem. From the information you have given she needs worming but I would be inclined to get her checked out by a vet first in case she does have a problem and the stress of the worming exacerbates it.
