hi
i have a three year old small breed bitch who is on day 11 of her cycle. she is still bleeding, but will stand/flag her tail for the stud dog who at the moment is not really interested. i wanted to know if this is normal behaviour for a bitch to stand before shes ready? and is this why the studs not intrested in her at the moment? he pays her attention but has not tried to mount her even though she is very willing!!! and will even pester and chase him when he walks off. any advice would be very helpful. thanks

Yes, the little tart will flag and stand for him even if she isn't ready. :-) It's a bitch thing. :-)
If he is an experienced stud, he will know his business. One of my stud boys will give a cursory sniff, and not waste his energy if the girl isn't ready.
And many bitches bleed all the way through, even after mating, so it's really no indication for you. Some girls are ready on day 8, others on day 19, so she is certainly no different to any other bitch.
Good Luck!
hi
thank you for your reply. do you think i should just keep puting her with the stud until he shows intrest? or will he get fedup with her flirty behaviour and be put off?

How old is he? I'm assuming the stud dog is experienced, or is he a maiden? Is he (forgive me for wording this badly) a pet dog who's been scolded for humping in the past, or is he a showdog who was always destined for stud work? It could make a difference.

It really does depend on the male which way you try it. You do need to be using an experienced boy with a maiden bitch.
And, before I get shot down in flames, and people tell me about the hundreds of maiden male/bitch matings they've witnessed - some of us are experienced in these things, and folk who aren't would be well advised to use an experienced dog and stud dog owner.
hi
no shooting down in flames from me lol. he is also three years old and is proven (sired 5 litters) he was a show dog as is my bitch both have done realy well. my bitch is maiden this is why i choose this stud. thank you very much for your help

I have often found very natural girls pester males for mating a good few days before the male will mate with them, and have successfully had them have pups.
On the occasions this has happened the bitches were finally mated over a 3 day period, after which both lost interest.
hi
thank you for your reply, its day 12 today and i'm taking her over to the stud this morning so maybe we will be lucky today fingers crossed lol

Depending on the breed, some are receptive later on, my bitch for example wasn't receptive until day 14 and she bled all the way through. If the stud knows what he's doing I'm sure you'll see results soon just be patient :)
i dont think its down to the breed myself ,i think its down to each bitch...in my large breed my friends bitch didnt stand till day 24 i think she had 8 pups my girl stud on day 16 only 4 pups and our our girl stud on 13 and then 15 we get her scaned next week to see ,and all these girls still bled alot ,......

Have you thought about doing idexx? this will give you results of whether she is ready to mate or not if you are unsure? I know my bitch has followed the same days as her mum and her nan. Do you know when their fertile days were at all as this may help?

Yes i'd go with emz and get an idexx test to see when she is ovulating, or stud dog wont waste his energy if they are not ready, good luck x
Standing and flagging isn't always reliable. I have a bitch that will stand and flag for males 365 days of the year. such a tart :)
well still no luck yet, we are at the vets tomorrow for the idexx test so hopefully will get some answers then. thanks for eveyone's help will let you's know how we get on.
good luck dont loose hope could be a late ovulater like my friends girl x
yeh some good luck at last we have had a five min tie today day 16. my girl did really well was not distrested at all stood like a little tart lol will be trying again tomorrow. do you think i should still have the idexx test done or does this mean i dont need it any advice welcomed. thanks for everyones help
sounds like there could be some pups in 9 weeks :) our girl was like this she didnt let the dog till she was ready we get her scanned on good friday
ooh i hope so puppies would be great will try her again tomorrow just to make sure lol white lilly hope all gos well for you fingers crossed

I'd certainly go for at least another mating, with a day off between first and second if a long distance or mate over 3 days if able to travel easily.
yeh success another 7 min tie this morrning, will try for third time tomorrow, are these ties long enough to work? thanks scarlet

Anything over a minute is great.
7 minutes is great, particularly if its raining :)
we had another sucessful mating today day 18 with a 20 min tie. we have had three ties now 1st = 5min 2nd =7min and todays 20 mins so done all we can lol hope it works. thanks for everyones help you'v been great. scarlet

Pleased that things have gone well for you. If she was that eager, sounds like you will be having the patter of tiny paws. Good Luck! :-)
