Its discusting to say the least, instead of discouraging people buying rabbits for easter they are do the oppisite they are in fact doing a special offer on an indoor cage, the 100 variety with food, wood shavings a bottle and a bowl with a bunny for £80.
There are a number of people trying to boycote this you can call customer services but for a complaint to be logged it has to be in writting so they are asking people to email them at customerservices@petsathome.co.uk

Maybe worth mentioning the make mine chocolate campaign. Surley this will encorage people to buy in impulse oh cute easter bunny.

i actually agree,i had two rabbits and i spent as much time as possible with them, i hate those tiny cramped cages.My partner made them a massive hutch with a paving stone run in the garden,they were let out each day as well and were happy bunnies(stella and hazel)i think that people will buy them as a present for their kids and after a few weeks alot will be rehomed,there is alot of work looking after a rabbit,and they can bite!!

what do you expect its pets at home they dont ive too hoots about their animals and the one in my area knows nothing about any of the animals its a complete joke.

we had a hamster from there and he died at 5 months (was 3 months when we got him) he had mites and then when we went back to tell them to check the others where he came from they denyed it could possibly come from them.tried telling me all their animals are mite free.....clearly not cos mine died.

you cant ask them for advise on any of the products cos they have no idea at all.

just to clarify, i did not buy my rabbits from there or any pet,as i do not agree with it,

i worked there for a short (and i mean short) time! i knew more about animal welfare than the mananger did and i found a mouse that was blind in a cage in a back room just left to die as no one would buy him! so i took him home and he lived for over a year. i wrote to head office with all my complaints and just recieved one back saying they would look into it!
animals are just a comodity they dont care what happens to them in the shop or outside it.
i hate the place

They don't just do it with rabbits, they've done it with guinea pigs in the past. The times I've taken in pregnant pigs from people that were sold a mis sexed pair is unreal....

i agree. i was in one of those stores a while ago and a poor guinea pig was being repeatedly raped by a much bigger pig. i told the assistant who said-- thats ok, they are new at being together, once they settle down it will stop!  appaling!

They dont care about their animals. I went for an interview at a new store down here and glad I didnt get the job. At the interview they said they wanted people with retail experience, doesnt matter if you've never seen a rabbit in your life as long as you can sell sell sell. Went for the work trial to see a room full of small animals in tiny cages. Anything up to 8 rabbits in one cage that was 2x3 ft. Apparently that is where they keep their new animals so they can recover after the journey. So many animals get returned that they set up their own ''adoption centre'' in the stores. I could rant all day about their policies. As you said, disgusting.

I was in one the other month. There were 2 fully grown adults in there. Possibly both pregnant :( :( my partner pulled me away otherwise i would have adopted them and made sure they were ok and then found them all homes. I couldn't believe they were up for adoption :(  i do wonder what happened to them :(

My parents have "adopted" a rabbit from PAH, my dad just cant help himself bless !!

I noticed yesterday when I popped in for some dog food that our local one has started selling reptiles ...... I wonder how much training the staff have had ? makes me mad, creatures like that need specialist care.   I remember when it first opened as Pet City they sold reptiles then when it changed hands they stopped selling reptiles ...... and reptile food and equipment, so anyone who had previously bought a reptile had to source the food from somewhere else (which is not always easy, I have to go to the next town for frozen mice ... and if I want new heat lamp bulbs its a 20 mile drive !!!)

Well they had to stop selling birds in most stores because they lost their license, reptiles are very much a specialist area and should not be sold in common pet stores. Some stores sell chickens too. I have never been more relieved to be turned down for a job after the insight to the company that i recieved.

It upsets me so bad to see those poor animals behind glass I avoid the place as much as possible if I can. Several times I've been into store and complained VERY loudly they have no water, food or hay, or the fact I've taken in yet another they have mis sexed and am having to look after them becaouse joe public hasn't a clue. Many times they've given me free cages and vouchers for food because it was turning away business.

The public see these fluffy babies sat behind the glass and buy on impulse from batch bred stock, instead of seeking out good rescoe centres or ethical breeders that handle their stock daily, and know how to care for their animals correctly.

I have been breeding and showing cavies for some 7 years now and I have seen some sights I don't ever want to see again, neglect and basic lack of research because people have bought a pet on a whim and have no idea how to care for it.

Well I confess - I did buy two rabbits from the store - must have been 13 - 14 years ago. It wasn't called Pets At Home, might have been PetsMart or something. I researched rabbits before I bought them as I'd never owned any before and my first stop was a very well known rescue centre close to where I live. Well, you'd think I was trying to adopt a child and it put me off completeley from adopting (I did later become a volunteer there for 5 years). I was mid 30's, no other animals (although I'd had lots as a child), had plenty of time to care for them, a beautiful hutch made by my Dad with a tunnel going to a large outside run. They made me feel like a stupid child and I decided against rehoming.
The store though were more than helpful (maybe things have changed) and I came away with two beautiful girls who had long, happy and healthy lives with me.
If things are as bad as you say then I wouldn't buy a pet from them again, but what I really want to say is that not every rabbit bought from this store will have terrible lives.

I can't believe pets at home have started selling reptiles! That is terrible because the staff at my local store are not very clued up on the animals they already have. I've given up buying fish from there because the staff really don't know their stuff and what's worse they pretend to be knowledgeable and give out completely the wrong advice. There is one guy who actually does know about fish and trust him completely but he only seems to be in once in a blue moon.
If they can't manage to learn about fish or even do basic things like separate mixed sex guinea pigs and rabbits then how on earth are they going to provide the specialist care that reptiles surely require? Ominously I did notice in my local store this week a new sign saying live reptile food for sale, maybe they are going to be going into selling the reptiles themselves soon.

I must admit I was in there today stocking up on dog food when I saw a lady and a member of staff walking around buying lots of stuff for a new puppy, I was nosy and asked what she was getting and basically.... the staff was advising her on food and I told them she can only feed on what the puppy was brought up on or it will have a dippy tummy and she was advised the wrong brushes for the type of coat the dog had. A good puppy pack would have all the basics and a pack of info on what to use/ buy for that particular breed.

I couldn't believe the basic lack of knowledge and general common sense.
