Hi guys was just wondering what your thoughts were on the kennel cough spray that goes up there nose?

My mum took her pup to the vet to get her first set of jags and she also got the kennel cough spray that went up her nose? When I took my pup to the vet to get his first jags and second jags we were never offered this. I just called the vet there and they said it was a new protocol that they were starting to give since kennel cough was on the up or something? I'm at the vets with him this afternoon and they said its best to get him it now and it lasts a year? I think its £20ish pounds.

Do you think its best getting it?

Thanks

Well, my girls had it and they absolutely hated it and then their eyes started to run and stain. So I have never had it again. Our vet did try to talk me out of having it, but I thought it would be best to have it done.  Our kennels where we leave them sometimes leave it up the the owners whether they have it or not, so personally I won't have it again.

Can a dog get kennel cough more than once, my dog had it as a young puppy. I had a beadie who had it as a younster and never caught it again.

I think they can as there are different strains of it, very much like the common cold.

Many years ago when we had our first Boxer he got kennel cough from a show, so later on we decided to give it a go.  Up the nose it went and immediately he sneezed, so how much good it did him nobody knows.  We didn't have it done again either on him or on any of the others that followed over the years.  In thirty odd years of owning our first family dogs (GRs) then the Boxers and Frenchies we've only (touch wood) had kennel cough twice - both times just Boxers.

Having worked in a kennel and seeing first hand the problems that kennel cough can cause I would recommend that you do have the kennel cough nasal spray done if you are planning on putting the dog into kennels, just as a preventative measure. It was just awful for all the dogs who were in, poor things. We made chicken stock sorbet to soothe their throats.

Two of my girls had their yearly kennel cough vaccination yesterday.
And for the first time got the nasal spray instead of a jab.
Worked like a dream. I don't think they even noticed it, really.
No sneezing or irritated eyes, but two happy girls :-)

 The kennel cough vaccine has always been a nasal spray.

In England, as I understand it, it has been given  as a nasal spray. But here, in Sweden, it's brand new.
It's always been given as an injection here, until this year.
I was just telling how great my dogs thought it was :-)
