Hi,

I have a new puppy (CKCS) coming home with me in a few weeks and I'm looking for some advice on how to introduce him to my three cats. The cats are very laid back chilled out fellas but I wondered how I should approach it. Should I introduce them one at a time (I won't leave them all together unattended for a long time and until they're all fine with each other, or just bring the puppy in and let them sniff him etc? I also don't want to frighten the poor pup by him suddenly having these three cats chasing him.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Let them get on with it. The cats will be disgusted, but after establishing they are the superior beings and the pup matures/calms down all will be well. The pup will accept them as part of the family, because he/she won't know any different and their scent will be familiar. I'm sure once the pup gets past the chase the cats stage they'll all be indifferent to eachother.

I would be inclined to see if Jasper(I presume that's going to be his name;) - excellent choice, same as my oldest boy) will wear a collar with a longish line attached. You can then introduce the cats to him but keep the line in case you have to control or rescue him. I'd also look to introduce the cats one at a time as three at once may be too much for him and you don't want to scare him.

Does the breeder have cats at all? If so that will help cos at least he'll have seen these creatures before.

Good luck with your new puppy.

Hi

Thanks for the advice! Actually Pam my eldest cat is called Jasper but I agree what a fab name! The new pup will be Harry!

I think I'll try the gradual approach to start with and stay with them at all times so no-one gets too scared or hurt. I'm so very excited about getting Harry as I've been looking for over a year for a pup/breeder I felt happy with, and I really want everything to go well!

I'll let you know how it goes!
