Topic Dog Boards / General / whinning male on holiday lenghthy stay???
- By Romside [gb] Date 23.03.10 21:23 UTC
one of my bitches is in season she is on day 17 i think, without looking on the calendar in the other room i dont know for certain but definatly past day 14 sorry, lol.

i have tonight sent my male who has been going nuts all day to my freinds kennels,it was unbareable to see him like this.

hes staying in their house as they dont have any dogs in the kennels at the moment and hes not used to being on his own,so im happy with that,i was just wondering how long he should stay away for do you think.

i cant remember how long he would normally pace for,now i know your going to say its cruel to let him pace and whine but hes not normally this bad.he would walk in pace and have a moan and then lie down but good lord hes been awful today and i couldnt stand to watch him any longer.

so again roughly how long will he need to stay away?will her scent just clear up,i will bath her but theres no point bathing her now shes still in full heat i know u know what i mean forgive me im really tired tonight...

I'd say past day 28.

I agree with Brainless, keep him in kennels until you know she has well finished her season plus a few extra days to be totally sure.

You have made a very wise decision on sending him away - hopefully others that have male and female dogs in the same household will read your post and do similar - especially after the recent posts on accidental matings (This thread would have also been useful on the breeding tab).

My own male dog goes to stay with my daughter when a bitch is showing early signs of being in season and he doesn't come back until I am certain the season is well and truly over.  In theory he could mate with any of my girls, but I prefer to plan my matings/studs and wouldn't want to be in a position to have to make the decision to use Alizin if timing wasn't right for me.

Hopefully you will now get some betters nights sleep.

It's the reason I only keep girls, couldn't cope with both sexes.

you saying that ive noticed already the girls all seem quieter and happy to all lay together, where as if troy was here theyd all be seperate in different places how strange.never wanted a boy to start with always wanted just girls but i couldnt have left him where he was born.
again a victim of feeling sorry for a pup, will never do it again ill know to walk away.

still miss him though the park walk walk sooo different this morning without him.
thanks for advise shall leave him there then, seeing as hes apparently settled nicely and is happy where he is.best isnt it.
will certainly send him away sooner next time tho poor sausage..

I think that you're really responsible Tamara sending your male away.  I cringe when I read on here about demented males in the same house as in season females - so unfair and selfish.  Or even worse, being surprised when other members of the family don't shut doors and 'accidents' happen. :(
I've never wanted to send dogs or bitches away, although I do think it's the kindest option if you choose to keep both sexes, and so I have only ever kept bitches.

thank you im blushing lol lol lol....

well im really lucky cos my freind leah has just bought a bungalow(lovely might i add )and they built beautiful kennels and a grooming parlour as her hubby is a trainer and dietition for dogs so its worked out perfect.when i left last night i called an hour later and she said he was curled up in front of their log fire :-0 lol.
hes in the house cos she said if hes as lovely as this then theres no pooint leaving him up there.he has a whippet for company so hes happy and so am i.

Males can sense the peak time when around a bitch even if in a different area of the house, they can go from not being too bothersome to suddenly becoming really frantic and ready to rip down walls to get to the bitch, that particular behaviour can last for approx 3-4 days when the bitch is at her peak. Afterwards the dog senses the time has passed and will just become bothersome again, but not as frantic.

But still, personally as you have a nice place for your dog to stay I would leave him there until the season is over as his eating and behaviour may still be affected, even if not as frantic, it is kinder for him to be away. :-)

I always send Henry away, like you say I just hate seeing him so miserable and inconsolable. And now he has a heart murmur it's the last thing I need for him to get so overexcited!
