My 7 1/2 month old Border Terrier appears to be starting her 1st season. I understand it lasts about 3 weeks. I've got an antimate spray but was wondering if there is any tablet/medication available to prevent attention from male dogs. Im due to be going away for Easter and as she's coming with me, its going to present a real problem. I intend to get her speyed at the appropiate time.

the only thing to do is keep her away from any male dogs, that means do not walk her where dogs are off lead.  Watch her in your won garden,a nd keep her on lead for at least 3 weeks, but more like 4, and do not take her out at all if you cannot be sure not to meet dogs.

Not spray or tablet (chlorophyll, made by sherleys Johnsons etc)will really be very effective, other than toning down the scent for when your road walking her, and see another dog before you cross the road.

Hi. Now I don't know if my girl is in season or not. The discharge she had was not a lot, tho definately there, by some may not have been spotted, but today there is nothing, not a drop ! In a first season is this sort of thing normal or could it be she has something wrong. She her usual energetic, scatty self, but i'm a bit worried.

If her girlie bits are swollen then I would count her as being in season, she may go on to have more loss in a few days, or may be one of those bitches with very little colour.  Some first seasons are not as full on as later ones.

Mine has just had her first season. Started without much swelling and some blood, not bright red like i expected though. As the weeks went on she got very swollen and bloody turned to very red then lighter. My boy showed interest in her from approx day 23 and didn't stop showing interest until 28. Very long season an a very difficult time, he was howling for her and would just pick at his food. She was a little tart though too. Thank god its over!

Sprays, tablets nappies wouldn't count on them for any effectiveness. Be careful where you walk her, i just took mine round the streets on her own. Dont want to risk it, main worry is leading a male astray to get knocked down.
