Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Dominance Theory
- By Robzee [gb] Date 19.03.10 12:58 UTC
Hi all,

I'm starting to do an essay on dominance theory as part of one of my behavioural courses so thought I'd do a little research on this controversial subject since everyone seems to have completely different views!  So, I'm going around asking lots of people what their views are (general public, those who work with dogs, those who breed etc etc) to see if different groups of people share simalar views.  OK I'm not wording this very well really LoL but what are your views on this subject?  (I have also done a search on the forums to get a general overview there)

Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated :)

I really don't think everyone has different views any more as it isn't about views -it's widely recognised and proved the theory was wrong. :) It's a bit like saying if somebody is of the VIEW the earth is flat it could still be right LOL. ;)

LoL true, maybe I worded what I was asking slightly wrong in regards to dominance in dog training and using rank reduction etc...it's good that most of us in the dog world understand the theories on it but then others still do believe that they must dominate the dog...i see this all the time.

I guess its one of these subjects that on the face of it seems easy to write about but when you delve into it, it's not so simple :)
