Those poor poor dogs. What a life to lead, fearful of everthing to the point where killiing it is its only option. My boy is a little under socialised (see previous thread), and it upsets me so much to see him scared of the lorry passing or the buggy. I cannot for the life of me think why any compasionate human being can allow their beloved dog to be subject to this.

Its the owners not the dogs that need to be PTS when the dog attacks. What happens, the dog gets seized, the owners a slap on the wrist and the dog PTS. What does the owner do? Go out and get another dog.

Well done, I can sleep easier knowing that something is being done. (NOT!!)

I really wanted to be shocked by reading this but I just wasn't, that's how bad it has got, well I suppose at least it did point out that it was the rubbish owners and bad breeding that caused this.

Makes you wonder why compulsory insurance has been put forward.  We know it, the thugs know it, but the MPs either are on a different planet or have another agenda

It could be argued that microchipping and 'id papers' could be checked by police, but that simply means that every dog owner in the UK would be subject to the same regardless of how innocent they and their dogs are - opress the innocent just to stop those who should have been stopped by current laws available to councils and police already!

Well, I am shocked by that article!  Instead of this clapped out, so called government attempting to penalize every dog owner in the country, they should be tackling the crime that has led to the use of so called 'devil dogs'. Nothing is ever dealt with at the roots- always they tinker - going for the soft option. The latest proposals are just another way of raising money from law abiding people. It will patently do absolutely nothing, to tackle a frankly terrifying situation.

Yes, it is horrible for innocent animals to be subjected to such barbaric treatment, even worse though, is what they can do to innocent children.

We have a pathetically weak government, which in my opinion should be kicked out asap, however, I am not so sure any party will deliver the strong government we need, on all the serious issues of the day.  I shall certainly be asking my prospective parliamentary candidate, how his party will deal with the subject of serious crime.

I commented to a youth with a puppy staff cross what a handsome pup it was (and it was-lovely strong friendly bundle)  and whilst he beamed at the compliment he very quickly told me not to touch the pup as it was importent for his training that he was only ever touched by him as he wanted him to mistrust strangers to be good guard. These people know what they are doing, its like they have read the books on socialisation and set out to do the full opposite for the most people aggressive dogs possible.

Where are these "people" (and I use that term loosely) getting this ideas from?? How can anyone treat dogs like this :-(

i'm afraid that with the mentality of "life is cheap" and lives being taken without thought,i.e stabbings,shootings etc,what chance have their dogs got of being treated with respect,like living things,etc. sad to say nothing shocks me anymore.

I found it particularly disturbing that a gang set out to kill one of their dogs, what a sad sad life for any dog to have :-( There should be much harsher sentancing for animal cruelty!

I take anything I read in the Sun with a pinch of salt :-), but if 'Chris' is the real deal then why doesn't the paper go to the police with the information? Two reasons- telling the police doesn't sell papers and it won't get the general public wound up about 'devil dogs'. We are also close to an election and this paper is one which has recently changed its political affiliation from labour to conservative so the story provides yet another method presenting the current government as cr*p. I read the Scottish version of this paper ( which has not yet changed political affiliation) and I can't remember any such story there.
I don't think the proposed changes are at all realistic but giving this idiot (chris) his 5 minutes of fame is criminal IMHO

My staffy can kill in minutes if you are in a room with her when she has bad wind!  The bit about guarding the iceland counter cracked me up but how sad that these poor dogs are being used in this way.  Absolute muppets!

sorry for the bad words but it all makes me so angry and upset,

i couldnt bring myself to read the whole story , i just dont want to know its all to upseting,

so now when im walking down the park with my 2 clowns (my bull terriers) people who have read this will now be even more fearful of my fun loving happy friendly well socialized bullys who just want to frolic about bouncing and playing ,
people will now shun away from us and treat us like lepas,

i already get same response from people when they see my Rottie and as he's a BIG boy i can understand people being nervous and im not so bothered,

but my Bullys are nothing at all like the dog in this story FAR from it they are the typical bully clownthey can be,

Im so sick of being looked at like im one of these sort of people just because of the breeds i own, and because of idiots that own my breeds,

when is this goverment going to grow some balls & step up and do something about this youth culture who are doing this to these animals?,

now its been printed in the news paper and this boy has given a statement to the press about what he is doing so why aint the RSPCA and the police going round this boys house and removing this dog from this guys care and bang up the prat of an owner for 8 months,

im sure the dog could be found a good home with loving people that wolud help train it better and give it all the love and help it needed to become a good pet,

as for the youth, sod the 8 months just thow the key away,

I love dogs but part of me feels that these dogs would be better of pts than live like this

This type of thing goes on in all Big Cities , we live in a nice suburb but I have seen in the parks and cemetries the trees where they get thier dogs to hang from to strenghen thier jaws ! I also know they catch suburban foxes and have thier dogs tear them to shreads , a neighbour told me he  saw a fox recently slung over a railing it looked like it had been ripped apart by dogs.

These low lifes need drowning at birth in my opinion .

My friend has 6 English Bull Terriers, my husband is her dog walker. They do have to be watched round other dogs but love people. My 18 year old daughter stays at her house and looks after them when she goes away. she even sleeps with the oldest bitch in the same bed!

When she was made aware of this article she rang The Sun to complain. She pointed out that none of the recent published stories about dog attacks featured this breed, their reply was to put the phone down on her!

It has been happening in cities for years. There are bad dogs being breed every where.
It has been proven by researchers, (studied the brain of romanian orphans) children who had been left to cry in their cots from birth and denied any chance of forming close bonds with an adult-they found a "virtual black hole" where the orbitofrontal cortex should have been. this is the part of the brain that enables us to manage our, emotions, to relate sensitively to other people, or things.
In my opinion as it has been mentioned, back to the roots of where most of these problems start! upbringing!!

It is bad people breeding and buying these dogs and ill treating them.
Only yesterday in the vets, as we entered a women said "don't come by me my dog will have you" it was a 2yr old Rottie, it went for all the dogs and people, also a a vet nurse moving a chair. It went for the vet the noise from the surgery was awful, then the dog pulled her out and they were going to the park. I hate to think what would happen if it got off its lead, she was frightened of it.
What is the world coming to?  

I agree my friend I had a cuddl;e and slobber with 4 huge rotties, I had only just met them but could tell they were lovely. I met a bulldog in the vets that wheezed up to me for a cuddle and Mum & Dad have to go up the garden with him at night as he's scared of the dark - called Tyson!!!

Then you read of people making a dog into a weapon, pleeze jusr castrate the kids so they dont breed!!

It beggers belief but its so so sad that dogs pay the price for this cruelty.
