We attended yesterday, first day of the show and I really could not believe the ammount of dog poo that had not been picked up.
Even by 9.30 when I took my dog to one of the outside excercise areas it was like a mine feild, you really had to watch where you stepped.
I really find it hard to believe that people dont carry a bag to pick up after their dogs.
Do we want to give people cause to complain about us.
Hope that things get better over the next 3 days.
Sadly it's like that every year :(
It's not that hard to shove poo-bags in your pocket to use when needed.
Even had to dodge it in the sawdust exercise area's and some peeps just brushed sawdust over it...
and left it there for soneone else to step in - nice not!!
I was asking my OH to avoid the poo on our walk back to the car parks when using our trolley..
Can't understand why these peeps give us all a bad name..
It's even in the instructions - pickup after your dog....
But then they don't bother reading those either I bet.

I too agree there are some very ignorant people who just do not care. Walking back to the car parks fully loaded with dogs/bags/shopping/chairs etc.. is bad enough but we constantly had to avoid poo, and not little bit either at one stage it looked like a carthorse had wandered along pooing....the dog who did it must have been dragged along while having a poo! No wonder some breeds are "going to the dogs" if they cannot be bothered to clean up after thier dogs how can we expect them to care for their health and welfare or health issues within their breeds either. I refuse to use the "Indoor exercise" areas, 1, because my girls would never ever GO indoors and 2 because so many people think it is OK for thier dogs to dump there and just walk away and leave it.
Oh well, just like in life in general, there are lots who could not give a damn about anyone else. :( :(
Aileen

its a disgrace.

I know it was disgusting, and only the 1st day too.

Tell me about it I live in Birmingham about 20 mins from NEC and therefore lots of dogs and owners in the local hotels/travellodges and the parks...green areas and the number of people who do not pick up after there dog has always been a problem....but having been to Crufts as a spectator and seeing people don't pick up there what chance out in the open.
And these are the people promoting the breeds....
I was there yesterday. Arrived at 5.30am and by 6.00am wheeling trolley and crates into hall 5. It was eveident the whole way from East cp the piles and trails of poop left. DISGUSTING. Had to keep dodging it. Then inside ex areas just as bad. As someone said the sawdust areas people had just flicked shavings over the poop and left it. And the outside tent with the woodchip there were over a dozen piles already at 8.15am!!! Come on folks pick it up.

It was pretty good yesterday (at least wherever I was) though I did notice that some people did not clear up what was done in the sawdust areas, maybe they think there they don't have to, can't see why they would not clear up same as anywhere else.

have to say some of the sawdust areas didnt have bags up so maybe that didnt help
They are not obliged to leave bags for poop at the x areas but the owners or handlers should always have one ready in their pocket. Good grief it seems as though half of them are shocked when their dog needs to poop - like it is something out of the blue and unexpected.
As for the ones who let their dogs lift a leg and pee all over someone elses belongings and crates whilst casually watching, don't get me started.

I agree, it is absolutely infuriating.
I saw somebody start to walk away from a pile on Thursday morning, so said loudly I was about to take their photo with my mobile, amazingly they turned round and bagged up! Perhaps a name and shame Facebook site would be in order??
Good idea Jeff? Though is in breach of civil liberties? I tried to do one once about our local beach where big notices are posted about dog fouling fines, the warden just watches them poop and turns his back. And I was told it is illegal to photo and name and shame.

Could be, but hopefully the threat would be a deterrent, or just a photo with no name?

They were actively handing out poo bags to everyone at the entrance

They could have done with some bins in the carparks. We had a couple of dogs do there toilet there and had to carry the bags with us till we came to the dumpsters on the pathways in to the halls.

I do think more shows should consider that the most likely thing a dog will need to do on getting out of the car is to go to the toilet.
Now it is no excuse, but when the exhibitors are saddled up with all their gear and the dogs it may be tempting to not pick up, or leave bags under the car, and forget/not take them away later.
Bins in the car park would at least make it easier to be responsible.
One of mine went just as we were getting back to the car, and I could have ended being tempted to leaving my bag of poo if I was less responsible rather than having to have it smelling in the car on the way home, luckily I noticed a bin by the barriers, not for that purpose I expect, but at least the air was fresher in the car.
