Ok...3 matings, no tie on any occasion. My girl has shown some signs, sickness, refusing food, very similar to when she had a litter 2 years ago & now seems very rounded, but more up near the rib area. She is a medium/large breed, long haired & in full coat. I was convinced there wasn't going to be any pups, but just in case, I bought a Stethoscope. We are approaching 7 weeks & I've heard people say that pups heartbeats can be heard after 6 weeks. I listened to my girls heart & heard a steady boom...boom....boom. I then moved down to her abdomen & heard the strangest sound! Apart from the usual gurgles, there was a dedum, dedum, dedum, dedum & it was really fast! Well I held my breath for so long, I nearly passed out :( My Family all think I'm totally crazy. Please tell me I'm not losing my mind, as my Husband says I'm hearing what I 'want' to hear. I so wish I'd had her scanned now, then at least I'd know one way or the other. xx L.G.

You could still have her scanned now.

At the very least, a good vet could also have a listen and give his/her opinion on what you've heard.
But a scan seems the best way, from what I understand - not difficult to arrange these days and not expensive either. Should be worth it anyway, to let you know one way or t'other!

Thank you. I contacted my vet who said it would be better to xray at this stage. I didn't book it, as I thought I'd get opinions here 1st. What do you think? x

If it's any help i have just had my girl scanned at 8 weeks to check for a singleton , but we could see 2 so that was good news :0)

Id just scan it so quick and easy and you can keep the scan a bit like when you have a baby scan when sky had her litter we put the scan on the fridge :)

Then again you could just wait as she doesn't have too long to go now and will start to look more obvious in about a weeks time

Thanks for your replies, I'll ring again in the morning & get an appointment for a scan. She's not herself today, just moping around & not eating. She definately needs to be seen. Thanks again x

Update...no puppies! Hubby was right when he said I was hearing what I wanted to hear. No explanation for the sounds I heard. I took her to a new Vetinary Clinic that's not long opened, nearer than our vets & scan was only £30! She's eating ok today, but was most indignant when she had her belly shaved!! On another note....my other girl came into season today. I don't know if I want to go through this again, but if we do, we'll use the Stud dog that fathered our 1st litter in 2008. Thanks everyone for your replies xx
