Hi Posted on here 4 weeks ago re my litter. The 10 surviving from 12 are coming on fine gaining weight daily.
One puppy was tiny but was the first to open her eyes ( always exciting ). About 24-36 hours later I saw that one eye was slammed shut. No weeping, swellingor pus. I thought she might have got the sticky porridge in there so bathed it with warm water. After another day, the eye opened again but was blue. Went to vet who gave some drops and when I went again he thought it was a little better. Gave me different drops ( Maxitrol ) which I can only give for 4 days. He was quite upbeat but wondered whether anyone else had experienced this as it is still blue although in certain light it does as he said look a little better.
Many thanks for any experiences
Diane

Just a bump. Has anyone experienced this?

The 'blue' look is probably just a cloudy cornea caused by whatever irritant caused the stuck-shutness.
If the cornea repairs itself it will regain the clear look but I have a friend with a litter where one pup didnt open one eye well and ultimately it did to reveal a cloudy and infected state. This pup appears not to make tears and is on artificial ones until it either developes them or is operated on to redirect salivary fluid to the tear ducts.

Hope the treatment your pup is on does the trick but I would seek the opinion of an opthalmologist if it persists.

Thanks Toolz. Finding it hard to get any direct info o n the internet. This pups eye was open and OK for sure and then was shut. Hopefully as you have said it will repair itself. One thing I learned from my vet is that the cornea is the only area of the body that does not have its own blood supply which is why it can take a long toime to repair itself. They are 4 weeks old now. Still hoping she will be OK.
Thanks Diane

I dont know where you are in the country but if you can get to Ian Mason  ( Consultant Opth) in Hythe, Southampton he is so helpful and reasonable.
