Topic Other Boards / Foo / Shampoos for ehancing curls on cat?
- By ChristineW Date 07.03.10 23:53 UTC
Hi,

Does anyone use/recommend a shampoo for enhancing curls in a semi longhaired coat?
- By Tanya1989 [ru] Date 08.03.10 00:26 UTC
Human shampoo? or dog shampoo?
- By Tigger2 Date 08.03.10 07:15 UTC
I suspect it's for a cat :-)
- By ChristineW Date 08.03.10 08:48 UTC
Yes its for a cat!    ;-) So it would have to be one that can be used on an animal. Had it been for a human it wouldn't have been under Showing!

I'm not sure whether it is coincidence or not, but when I used Johnson's Coal Tar shampoo on my curly coat it came up in very good curls.  I don't know much about cat coats though.

I've used Tigi Catwalk Curls Rock for my own curls but not the cat :-D Not sure if it would work on a cat or not :-D

this is it

No Maddog, I don't think it is a coincidence, when I've used coal tar shampoo on my Spanish in the past they had lovely tightness to their cords afterwards.  Just reminded me of what shampoo I used to use so thanks LOL!!

I don't actually believe this but apparently Tigi now do 'Pethead' products and there is a creme rinse for curly/long coats

Here

Given the price I would give the coal tar one a go first :-D

Thanks everyone.  We actually don't condition the coat of a Selkirk as it has to be dense, plush & stand away from the body so too much moisturising would make it droop.  I use PAH 2-in-1 on Hope and it 'crimps' her up well but Larissa is going through the juvenile phase where the curl can drop and she needs as much help as she can get especially as she scratched the hair out of each side of her neck!  :-(

It was probably you that told me in the first place!  I just love the smell (well it's better than fox :-P)

Just to say Coal Tar soap must not ever get anywhere near a cat! Cresols and phenols are extremely toxic to them (but harmless to humans and dogs).

Have you tried the K9 Competition range? Its getting rave reviews from poodle and bichon owners, well just about everyone really. Available from technogroom I think.

I didn't know that sorry :-(  Always amazes me what effects cats but not dogs.  I still live in fear of killing my cats by washing their bowls in fairy liquid, but have recently found that is a myth!

What about wiry coat by biogroom.  Love it , softens and lightens the coat but lets the coat keep it 's harshness.

Do you bath them often?
- By ChristineW Date 09.03.10 23:42 UTC
The coat has to be soft on a Selkirk Rex but it needs to have body!    I only wash them pre-show about 2-3 days beforehand then spritz with water in a mister the day before.  Sometimes I use John Freida Dream Curls too but since using the PAH 2-in-1 I have found it's bought Hope's coat up well.

I just use water spray on the Bedlies to keep the twist in their coats, but bottled - Pellegrino is the best, gives body and doesn't soften too much :-D

Thanks mod for moving this!  But maybe you'd like to check your spelling after renaming the title!!  I know how to spell enhancing!!  ;-)
