Looking for opinions here, saw a post on another site about using these collars to stop a dog barking, not remote control the one where the dog barking triggers a spray of citronella. Various opinions given then one poster talked about their vet who swore by these to stop dogs in the hospital kennels barking.

Don't know what anyone here thinks but I don't think I would like the idea of my dog being fitted with one of these when already stressed, also nearby dog could trigger if it barked.

Opinions please? I have no problem with the use of these collars, but just don't feel this situation is appropriate

Hi Cava, I used Becs one on Kai, (working beardie)cos hes a little sod, and it was brilliant. It didnt appear to bother him at all.

I don't have a major problem with the citronella ones Anne, used properly they should cause no harm. You do need to make sure that you fit them properly as an ill fitting collar will not work. With multiple dogs another's barking can set the collar off. In this scenario you could use an anti bark collar such as a husher, I used one of these successfully on one of my barkers.

The one thing I am aware of is that you need to be careful in the summer as citronella makes skin sensitive to sun and the dog could get sunburnt, kind of like the way you can put lemon in your hair to make it blond.

Yes, but would you like the thought of one on your dog while it was at the vet for treatment?

certainly not Anne, and I would not condone using one on a poorly dog in the vets

Sorry I was talking about using it in a training situation at home to resolve a problem such as barking.

I have to say I would be furious if my vet used one on my dog whilst she was in there for any reason, ceertainly without speaking to me about it first. Totally agree an already stressed dog snhould never be fitted out with one, this is IMO very wrong and likely to really upset a sensitive type.

I do feel they are good aids but in certain situations only. Some dogs hardly notice them, others can be quite scared, and how would the vet know which was which?
