When we had our first litter, we gave them all nicknames. We called one of our puppies 'Dora' as she was the first one to climb out the whelping box and explore :-D

My friend's mum had a gsd called Effie, short for Euphemia Lollipop!!! lol

I like Doris or Phoebe. My Mum is called Doris, when we got our 1st female pygmy goat, we called her after my Mum. As I said to my Mum, you can't expect any grandchildren to be named after you, so we thought we would do the next best thing & name the goat 'Doris' after you !!

I had a kitten last year who was named Dora for much the same reason.   She's now been called Lacy by her owner!  

Going back to Dorcas it's actually a very old name.  It's in one of Shakespeare's plays along with Mopsa (I love this name!   One of the pups from my first litter was called this) who are both shepherdesses.
