i have a 9yr old boxer dog and a 3 yr old jack russell bitch ,she isnt a tall jack russell , anyway this is what happened she is in season so i i shut her in the kitchen while i went to a friends when i returned 45 mins later they were in the front room i musnt have closed the door properly ,the boxer dog was panting and is penis was out , now wehilst i have been in i havent separated them and he as shown interest naturally and she as stood for him etc but she tends to mate him more than the other way round and he does paew her etc but doesnt get close but normally doesnt get his penis out ,they are both maiden and have never been bred from,i truely think she is to skitish to go through with a proper mating as she would rather hump him but it as really got me worried incase the worst happened , as the pups would be too big for her to pass ,i just hope what goes on infront of us hasnt gone any further when ive been out ,does anybody have any ideas ? jannette

It's very possible that they have mated, even if he didn't fully penetrate. I suggest you take her to your vet for the injections (called Alizin) which would terminate any pregnancy, for her safety.
And from now on keep them totally separate until the end of her season; it's not fair on either of them to tempt them like this.
but this happened on fri would the injection work if i took her tommorrow thanks
Certainly. And it's really unfair to leave a dog with an in season bitch. They should be separated when she's in season.

I remember a few years ago an article in one of the daily newspapers about a Jack Russell bitch who had been mated by a Rottweiler dog -the owners didn't think it possible. One single puppy, she needed a c-section of course, and the pup was bigger than its mum at 8 weeks of age.
>would the injection work if i took her tommorrow thanks
Yes. The injection (actually two injections 24 hours apart) can be given up to 45 days after mating.

Please take her to the vets for the injection. It really isn't worth risking .
And if I were you I'd be making a booking to have her neutered in the next 2 to 3 months!

she will be going to the vets tommorrow, we think the world of her and would be heartbroke if anything happened to her ,were not having her spayed as were hoping to have a litter ofrom her later this year, like children you cant watch them every minute and this was an accident ,thanks for all your advice guys xx
Please dont breed from your jack, people cannot give these puppies away. Anyone who breeds is thinking hard and long about breeding at the moment with the market the way it is. I have seen a sharp rise in the amount of litters this year from ppl who are just trying to make money. Well bred puppies with health tested parents are struggling to find homes and going for at least half of what they are worth.
ps get your dog castrated to stop any further accidents.
