Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / IDEXX Help?

Hi

I am looking for some advice

I have a maiden bitch & i sent bloods to IDEXX on wed (day 9) and got the call on thur to say she had not yet ovulated and her reading was 9.4, i asked best days to try to mate her as stud was over 5 hours away, he advised sat/sun.

Tried her with stud tonight (day 12) and she was having none of it, very aggressive and kept on sitting down so we decided to not stress her out and didnt push it.

Last time when she was in season she would stand for the wind on day 15, so do i try again tomorrow or wait until around day 15 and make the trip again?

I am really not sure how the numbers go up with idexx

Thanks in advance

Can u not send more blood off to idexxx, afterall you want to find out when is likely she will ovulated no point in guessing when you can have a good estimate you have paid for one test already why not get another

I agree, with blood testing you test from before they are likely to be ovulating and re-test every two days to watch for the rise and when it reaches ovulating levels you know.

Guessing or asking them to guess from a low reading is no more use than not testing and making a stab for it.

My two most recently mated bitches, daughter mated day 20 - 22, and mother days 16 - 18.

The first was mated on days 18 - 20 last time, and the other was mated days 15 - 17 first time and 13- 17 second time.

So both close to previous times, but some bitches can vary wildly from season to season.  Will the stud dog owner not board the bitch for you, the dogs can then get to know each other well, and the bitch will be more relaxed, and your more likely to get matings at optimum times?

not everyone is prepared to leave their bitch with someone else Barbara.....I know I certainly wouldnt....ever. Likewise id be most reluctant to have bithes stay here unattended. I think the OP will need to continue testing every 48 hours.

Yes we have had this discussion on another thread, seems it varies a lot form breed to breed, but certainly stud dog owners expecting to board bitches is the norm for us, and certainly for many/most breeds in the past.

Same here!

Very unusual with us nowadays, with greater ease of travel (no more sending bitches alone by train!) and with bitches generally being family pets and not kennel dogs.

I don't own a kennel, and visiting bitches go to bed with me.

I recently had one of my girls go to a stud, and she stayed a week, and I know that the stud dog owner has the same set up as me.

I do trust the owner of the dog that I used, and I believe that does play a big part in the decision making.  My girl is 4 and will be spayed after this litter, so I wanted to give it the best of chances.  If she's not taken, she will be spayed anyway.

Our bitch is due to go to a stud in the next couple of weeks id rather she stayed with the stud owner as they do have the room, own a large kennel but our bitch would get so stressed its not worth it, its a shame really as its going to be quite a trip for 2 or even 3 ties.

At the moment I have a bitch away at the stud dogs breeders, I;m so worried about her (not) as it doesn't look from the photos of her on the sofa with them that she is in any hurry to come home ;)

She gets her bit of his breakfast each morning and is waiting for him to take her for her walks and pinches his swivel chair every chance she gets.
