got lovely boy i want to prove he licks the bitchs bits crys wags his tail but wont mount goes very shy. hes 4 years old, is there a way of inseminating her? when he licks her ive tried rubbing him to get him going a bit!!! his willy will come out and gets the two knots in it. i have worked in a greyhound stud few years ago but never  dealt with a shy stud dog that wont mount

Apart from the fact that artificial insemination without prior permission from the KC means you can't register the puppies, if he's not willing to mate then it's probably not wise to continue his genes, in case the tendency is inherited and not learned (has he ever been scolded for mounting and humping?).

It could be that your presence is inhibiting him. Obviously you can't leave them unattended, so is there someone else who could handle them for you while you stay out of sight?

does he live with her ? often dogs that live with bitches wont mate them (unless you dont want them to of course ;)  )

ClaireyS is so right about dogs that live together only doing it if you don't want them to!  Said she, after dragging a bitch from behind the settee who was a determined little trollop!

Seriously though, I did wonder the same as Jeangenie.  I often cringe when I hear someone shout gettoff  to a humping youngster.  If you want to use a boy for stud, don't ever tell him off for humping.

Has the bitch been progesterone tested, it could be she hasn't reached the optimum time for mating.  Many males will not mate a bitch until she is absolutely ready.

On the other hand he may be intimidated by her as she is likely to be dominant over him if they know each other well.

I tried to use a 4 year old maiden dog on my very pushy bitch and nothing came of it.  He mated a young bitch belonging to a friend who too was a maiden with no trouble at all a year or so later, and became a very efficient stud siring some five litters in the 18 months he was used.
