Hello all, I'm hoping to mate my darling bitch again soon (first time failed :-(  ). I'm starting looking into microchipping any puppies i am lucky to have before they leave me. My vet does it my charges a lot more for it. the local RSPCA do for £12 which I think is great but dont facy taking very young pups over there incase they pick anything up (its a resue centre) or am I just being silly????? What do you all out there do??? Dose anyone know if there are mobile microchipper's ??? and if so and in hampshire (portsmouth). many thanks for you time all have a good week   sara x x x

I think you should ask your vet what deals he does!

I have a tiny breed, and don't have them chipped until they go in for their 2nd puppy health check at 6 months.

But when they have their first jabs, I pay for both jabs and the microchip at the same time.  When paid for altogether, my vet only charges just over £7 for the chip.  As I use a pretty expensive veterinary hospital, I was surprised.  Until the vet told me that the microchip company bear the costs.

I don't see that just my vet gets a discount, and feel that your vet should pass on his offer to you.  You have nothing to lose by asking what they offer.

A friend of mine is a qualified micro-chipper so comes to my house to chip the pups at just under 8 weeks,  but pups are taken to my vets just before leaving for a full MOT so if I didn't have a friend that could do it, I would get them done at the same time as their check up.

I'm actually doing the micro-chipping training on 18th April, just hope my pup forgives me as she has to be my guinea pig.

I do mine myself, took the course -makes it so much easier. The more chips you buy the cheaper it is, but roughly £7 each.

Is there a "Vet Vaccination Clinic", by you? I take all my puppies and dogs there for there vaccines also microchipping very reasonable, half the price of my vets.

Why not get your vet to chip them when giving them a check prior to leaving you - incorporate the additonal cost into the purchase price of the puppy.  As you are still in the planning stage it is easy - its not as though you have already told potential new owners price of puppy - even if you did I'm sure they would understand the extra charge if pup was passed to them already chipped.
I have my puppies tattooed and inform potential new owners of transfer charge made by NDTR as soon as I decide they can have one of my puppies.

Why not have them ear tattooed instead?  the new owners can then chip them too if they wish, but the tattoo registry keep your details as the breeder permanently on record, so should a problem arise contacting the owner they will contact you.

I have had every litter I have bred done.

try ringing your local council, mine sent the local dog warden round to my house and i think it was £12 each.

I have all my litters microchipped and tattooed, both come to the house and do them.

The Portsmouth dog warden does microchipping, I think it is £11. But also try Waggies mobile grooming and Four Paws Aqua, last year when I enquired they were willing to visit to chip litters at £8 each. As far as I have been able to find out, there are no dog tattooists in the Portsmouth area.

According to the National Dog Tattoo Register there's Lyn Williams (01425 478260) who is in Ringwood, which is close.

and they will travel to you for litters, in their catchment area
