This will be long winded but i will do my best to explain.
i got my pug up as normal this morning and he was fine.He went out for a quick pee and poo,then came in and had his breakfast and tagamet syrup like usual(he has a hiatus hernia).I then fed my puppy,george had two of the pups biscuits,but that was normal as well.
The day progressed and all was fine,he had no treats from my girls lunch,then at one o'clock he sneezed a load of snot out his nose.I wiped his nose and he was fine again, and this has happened before so i was not worried.
He spent the afternoon sleeping on my fleece in the living room on the sofa and was happy.At four o'clock he jumped up into the air with loads of snot coming out of his nose again.I wiped his nose,but it would not stop,he then started foaming/salivating at the mouth and it kept coming,he was very distressed,he was shaking like a leaf,and crackling when breathing,he also was hyperventilating.
I called the vet immediately who said bring him down,we arrived at four fifty,the vet said that he must have licked or eaten something and his mouth was reacting to it.The vet said that in pugs it seems so much worse as they have the flat face,he also said that georges tongue was swollen,his lymph glands were up,but that was normal in these situations.I said to the vet that there was no way he had eaten anything he shouldn't,that the only thing different was the sleeping on my fleece and that i had given the sofa a very small polish,which was normal anyway.
The vet gave him an antibiotic jab,an anti sickness jab and an anti painkiller with sedative and said he should be fine,but any prob get back to him,he also said to feed him half his tea as normal.
I took george home and put him to bed for a while for a rest,i then took him down stairs for his tea,but he was still shaking and putting his head up in the air and a bit crackly. i gave him a little tea and his tagamet.
He is now on the sofa snoring,but he is still shaking,and regurgitating a little out his mouth and nose.
What do i do, shall i leave him for a bit and see what he is like,or go back to the vets with him,and what can the vet do?
I Am so scarred and upset i feel sick, i cant eat or even sit still,i love my little pug so much,he is my brave little soldier,he went through the mill and back,but seeing him like this upsets me so much, even our newfie puppy knows he ain't right as he washed his face for him,
Any advice would be really grate,

Jo. How are things - don't know what to suggest - but if you have concerns then phone the vet - it sounds harsh but that is what they are there for - it may be nothing but so what it is a service they provide and you pay for. Good luck.

he is finally lying down sleeping,but is still shaky and upset when he sits up,i have been thinking all night and just cant see it being something he has eaten. I am so careful as i know he has massive health problems,plus i have two young kids and a newfie pup,i am also home all day,i am giving him another half hour and then i will see how he is,i will wake him and judge it then.George cant have any full sedation or anesthetic unless its life or death,so i am so scared, i am wondering if its his teeth,we do brush them and use a little plaque off but he cant eat anything hard so they are bad,the vets know this but want them to fall out etc on their own rather than knocking him out to clean them, he does not have many left

my Olive pug has exactly the same symptoms if she eats a lady bird (except the snot from nose). They may well be harlequin lady birds in your house that have "woken" and come to life because the weather has recently warmed up. I actually had one in my lounge last week! There was a mass influx of this type of ladybird in the UK last year, and we had them in all sorts of weird places such as in the gaps in the frames of our windows etc when it was getting colder.

Is there any chance he may have been eating grass?  Just wondering if there is a chance he has regurgitated/sneezed some back up and it may be stuck at the back of his throat or maybe has travelled back up into back of the nostrils.

Hope he feels better this morning.  :(

Could it be acid reflux or an upper resiratory infection ?

hi everyone and thanks for responding,
i cant see it being grass or toads.He went on the lawn at 7am and was straight in after he did his jobs.We back onto fields with shire horses and we get foxes,hedgehogs and squirrels in the garden and the neighbours have a pond.
i think he did do it last summer after he licked a lady bird,but it was over so quick and nothing like what happened yesterday.I can only think it was possibly he licked a little apple juice off the sofa which i polished in the morning.
He is a lot better today,but still not right so i am limiting his food,and plenty of rest,we are also changing our vets to one alot closer.
i hope he does not do it again,my little girl was crying as she saw my other pug fit and he was salivating as well and she thought that george was going to die like that as well.
i am also upping his tagamet to 3 times a day to keep any regurgitation under control.
i will let you know what happens,

one of my cats was drinking some milk and sneezed at the same time , the milk went up her nose this made her sneeze uncontrolably for a good few minutes , we then had loads of mucus coming down her nose in strings and she was wheezing as if she had a blocked nose and her chest sounded rough , I was very worried as she is an oldie..
The emergency vet told me via telephone that the milk and sneezing would have inflamed her nasal passages and irritated the back of her throat making her sound chesty...that she would be best left at home kept warm and she should be fine by the following day with a little TLC, I wasnt happy as she was very distressed ..but I followed his instructions ...he was correct the following day she was a lot better but still a little wheezy by the evening and into the following day  she was fine .

sounds like some similarities ...although I realise your dog has other problems...hope he is better today.

it is worrying and if it was only a few minutes that would have been bad enough,but it was for 45 mins from start to the time we went o the vets!.It was also scarry as george has had stage 2 larynx collapse and his larynx is still not fully open,that's why he cant have any heavy sedation etc as it could collapse again.He is sleeping on the sofa beside me at the mo,still a little crackly and shaky but his tail is up and he is not all hard and tense and hunched up.I just dont want him to suffer,i am scared this will happen again and his larynx will collapse and he will suffocate to death,he has been through so much.He should have died at 2 and he is 7 in may,i just want him to go in his sleep when its his time,which i hope is not yet for a while.
i have washed the leather sofa with plain water in case it was the polish,but i really cant see it being that,although knowing george(he is allergic to any heavy perfume smells)its a possibility.
The mucus saliva was coming out in bubbles by the handful and he was going bluish in the mouth.

I have no advice, just wanted to say that I hope George is much better, it must have been very frightening. Sometimes we just never know what causes things to happen and vets can be just as clueless as us, so they just give what will cover for most possibilities.

He sounds to be coming around from whatever caused it, poor boy he must have been very scared too. At least he has you to give him that all important TLC which is the best medicine in the world. :-)

Just another wild possibility, you haven't recently given him a flea treatment like frontline and some ran to a place he can lick?

I have read your other post and understand the worries you are having with George ..you have done so much for him and must be doing something right for him to have survived all his problems, he is very lucky to have you as his owner ,  you seem to know what is the best thing for him ..go with your instincts.

I only mentioned my cat as the incident seemed similar ..something I have never experienced before and the best advice I was given was to leave her alone let her rest and her body will sort itself out.

Sorry about your problems with George - hope he's feeling much better now. 
His symptoms sound a bit like a severe allergy attack [ladybirds?]  These can seem to subside then come back.   It may be worth asking your vet about anti-histamines.  I'd definitely check 1st as he's other health problems.

hi jo i also have pugs and when i had a litter one of the pups done exactly the same thing the vet did not really no what it was  gave himan anti sick injection and sent him home,one by one the other two got the same thing even though the vet said it was not ketching.They were all fine but was told to give them protexin i think thats what it was called to settle their tummys  they were all fine.But i was sick with worry

it is a flaming worry,it took him days to be 100%,he was only completly right after he threw up,poor little man,i think it is more of a worry with pugs as they look like they are suffering more as they find it harder to breathe etc,
i pray it does not happen again,hope your pugs are well,

jo, my vet said it was him being sick out of his nose because of the flat face.Get some protexin in you can get it off viovet or bestpest ,it lines their stomach with good bacteria ---this is what it says on packet----
