Yes I know everything thinks they are but it is still a shock when it happens to you - or rather in this case my daughter and son-in-law.  Just thought that I would post as a warning for others.  My daughter did all the ground work researching using the scrappage scheme to get a new car for my s-i-l.  She asked all the right questions having read all she could.  She thought that she had a good deal - with finance to help buy the new car.  She had asked the APR and was happy with what she was quoted.  However when they went in to sign the documents and pick up the new car they were bamboozled.  They still had the baby with them so my daughter was unable to see the documents - (I had the older two children) and the salesman kept distracting them by talking about insurance and waving his hands around.  My s-i-l signed the documents and when they got back home discovered that the APR was actually a lot higher and they had been charged two different fees.  By the time they finish paying off this loan they would have paid a lot more than they intended for a new car.  They would have gone for a different make.

She kicked up a fuss and she has had an apology and was given till Monday to arrange a new loan elsewhere.   This hasn't been enough time.  My s-i-l doesn't have a good credit rating (never uses credit cards) and has been refused by some places.  Other loans take several weeks to set up having to send away documents.  She should have looked into this before they bought the car - but she was lulled into a false sense of security by the dishonest salesman.  Be warned!

Isn't there a 7 day 'cooling off period' for any agreements you sign?  If so, they could possibly return the car and go for the other model.

Unfortunately his old car went for scrappage so there is no going back on that - it is probabally a cube of metal by now.

Oh......sorry to hear that.  Maybe your warning will prevent someone else making the same mistake.

If the Bridgend garage had been more on the ball then she would never have gone into Cardiff to find this deal anyway.  They were so trying not to sell anything that she got fed up and went to try down Penarth Road.
