Hello All, I'm new to the forum.  I breed Russkiy (Russian) Toys in Ireland having imported my original dogs from Russia and Central Europe.  As the Irish Kennel Club is affiliated with FCI the breed is recognised and can be registered and shown in Ireland, however I have had several enquiries from the UK and of course would like to help any would-be owners in the UK with the breed... but how does one start the process of having a "new" breed recognised with the KC?

I didn't recognise your breed so went to have a look -  Good luck with your breed development with the KC :)

Sadly you could be waiting quite a long time.  The Barbet has been in the country for a while now and just a few litters bred but they have got quite a way to go before being accepted.  You have to have a number of dogs, lines, litters etc. before being able to register them with our KC.  Took 14 years for my breed to be fully recognised.

Yes I was thinking along those lines.  For me personally it isn't such an issue as I can register my puppies here and show anywhere in Europe and the States, but it is unfortunate for fans of the breed in the UK.  I guess anybody who is enthusiastic will just have to show and register in an FCI territory for the foreseeable future
