to book my girl in for a rescan on friday we went last week she was on day 30 from 1st mating and 24 from 2nd mating, but the girl on the desk asked if she was showing any signs and i said not really she was sick last week and she repied i was probley wasting my time going back for a rescan!! what would you do go back for the scan or is the girl right today we are on day 35 from first mate or 29 from last mating and when you book a scan do you go from the first or the last mating.
thanks again x

You've got quite a time difference there. I try & time the scan for about day 32 onwards (from the last mating) & if my vet can't see anything he offers a FREE re-scan a week or so later. If he can't see anything by then I trust his judgement & he's never been wrong so I dont take him up on the offer.
Some scanners say they can tell a lot earlier.
we are going for our 2nd scan tomorrow...our girl has suddenly exploded and the vet wants to check that everything is ok. Shes on day 46 tomorrow.
If you get the 2nd scan free then go for it, its your dog so take her,...these receptionists are not the vets, at least you will know for certain ...hopefully.
Good luck...hope it goes well for you:)

Toffeecrisp hope everything went ok with your girl .
We are going back on Friday for a 2nd scan , to see if everything is ok or not as on the 1st scan we were not sure if my girl was reabsorbing or not as she had discharge for a few days around day 16 ...... tbh i am so nervous it's daft

we had her re scanned today and she is not pregnant, dont understand why shes missed the stud has had 5 litters and our girl was mated every other day from day 8 until day 13 then the stud went off her, so dissapointed.

Oh Alib i am so sorry , i know it must feel horrid x

yes it is horried you cant help after they have mated to get a excited but it wasnt to be this time.

How many seasons have you tried with that particular stud dog? It could be that they're just not compatible, but that she'd get pregnant if mated to a different dog.

this is the first time with this stud, we paid £500 and get a free return next season so i think i will go back and try with him one more time
Alib, Im gutted for you...to be so excited and then nothing!!!..Im really sorry:(
Our 2nd scan still showed 3 puppies and 3 tiny heartbeats...that was amazing to see.
We could also see the skulls and spines..very active little babies in there:)
Day 47 and counting.
Good luck Strawberryblond. will be thinking of you and hoping all ok.....
Just a question that maybe nobody can answer yet...but why are so many bitches missing when being mated..Ive read about loads of them on here and different forums.

There appears to be a problem in our breed with bitches catching, was in our minutes on last AGM

I was thinking the same lately there seems to be alot of girls missing you could guarantee if the neighbours dog got into the garden she would have caught lol
any ideas would be great for next time if you do bloods when should i start testing bear in mind she allowowd the stud to mate her at day 8 but at day 14 the stud had lost interest in her,
any help is always greatly recieved x
I don't know what more experienced breeders will suggest but one of my girls missed last time - full stud fee etc up front and missed even after bloods/swab/CHV etc.
I was advised not to go back to same dog - she had previously had a litter so she should have been fine. She is now coming to the end of her current season and was mated Mon/Tues after bloods test from Idexx to a younger and very fertile young dog - so fingers crossed she will take this time.
I have now come to terms with losing the £500 - not easy to do...
alib...I'm so sorry to hear your news :(

Alib79, So sory to hear this, looks like this has happened to a few of us over the last month or so. Chin-up and we all hope for better results next time.

Dont give up, i would blood test from day 7 and see where you go from there, we tried 3 times once with a dog, never got a litter, then went to a different dog, 8 puppies, it is dissapointing, as well as the cost, it cost us £1,500 in 2008 to travel to Germany plus stud fee, no puppies, again this year same costs (different dog) 1 mating, we got 4 puppies but 1 faded, good luck for next time x
