My new puppy has kennel cough, she has had her antibiotics from the vet and he said just to let it fade. We picked her up yesterday. She's now got a really snotty nose and is a bit snuffly, is this just part of the cough? I'm keeping her warm and she seems perfectly happy. Do I need to take her back to the vet or just see how it goes?

you could put a little  karvol drop on his bed to ease his congestion when he is sleeping, but the best treatment is if you can have someone hold him and you let him breath in steam  if his nose is blocked, but be careful not to let him near the hot water.
You can also give him childrens benylin ...if you are not happy with him in any way go by your instincts and ring the vet.

Will do, thanks ever so much for that.

I'm not sure that the breeder should have let you have her like that -  I'm not sure that she will be covered by insurance with a pre-diagnosed contition as her breeder has to declare that she is fit when sold.

With such a young pup I would certainly want to Vet to see her.

Hi WestCoast, she is from a rescue, they took her to the vets and got her on the anitbiotics. The vet recommended that they go to their homes, she is perfectly happy just a little snuffly. Her cough is much better.

Great. :)  Sorry - I didn't read your previous posts.  Do rescue give you 4 weeks insurance like breeders do?

That's ok! Yes, this rescue did. I've paid for her insurance as well though so there is an overlap just in case. :)

I would give benylin, thats what most people did when we had an outbreak in Cheltenham a few years ago and keep her away from any other dogs for 10 days or so to avoid spreading it.

Will do, thank you. My boys have caught it from her unfortunately, they're fine but I'm giving them cough medicine to ease it a bit. The vet said not to give any to the puppy though as she is only 8/9 weeks - we don't know her date of birth. I'm just going to work on her people socialisation until she's better.
