Oggie had his first show yesterday (Canadian Eskimo Dog),a couple of days after his 6 month birthday. As i was working my O.H took him and Keziah our female 9 month old Eskimo.Oggie went into puppy,Kezzie into open AVNSC.First of all the judge asked what breed was Kezzie -ok a rare breed so will let her off - Ced my OH replies.Oh but the other CED I judged in Devon was much bigger Kezzie is very small for her breed.WLH!!Steve replied that the only other dog that would have been shown in Devon would be Kezzies sister,(a lovely red)and when we showed at LKA kezzie was the largest of her sisters.Well that wasn't the dog she judged.
Then Kezzie and Oggie went head to head for Best AVNSC WORKING.The judge announced the winner !!!!!!!!!Well as far as I am aware Oggie is definetely a CED which is a working breed and a Sammy is a Pastoral breed.Apparently she made many other dubious decisions throughout the day, even not allowing Oggie and another puppy winning BOB into the group, which I have just learnt.Well thats a few less in the future willing to show under her.

To be honest her judging left alot to be desired. I handled Kooga (Husky)  and she checked his teeth---well she lifted his top lip and looked at his gum...couldnt see dentition, hardly went over the dogs (a stroke at best). I told steve to go back in for the group and when he did she said..leave it for the puppy group! Even if she wasnt going to consider him he had every right to take Oggie back in. I was really annoyed. As for them being small....never heard of a puppy??? Dont think she asked ages in most classes and with large breeds I think that is quite an important thing to consider.
Never mind, they showed well, and Oggie looked reasonably white!

Judge would have known in advance what breeds she had in the classes and she should have been expecting to see the CED's. It's pretty bad not even recognising a breed when already informed unless she was a last minute replacement judge.
The steward should have ensured every dog qualifying for the group was in the group, not the judge.
As you say probably won't get many going back under her.

Wasn't a replacement judge, but have even heard worse things over the last couple of days.A friend of ours who has a beautiful Alaskan Malamute (1/2 brother to ours) was told that even though she was aware his dog had done well in the past,he wasn't as good on the day.To which he replied, well this is my bitch madam you haven't seen my dog yet!!!!!(so obviously as Carol said no hands on and a case of should have gone to spec savers.)He also handled a Leo,to which she said that she could possibly do better placed 3 out of 3,and was told that this would go nicely with the C.C won at LKA in December.
