"My last litter was a result of a slip mating, so it is very possible to have a result from a slip mating"

Maybe so, but if the slip mating is extremely brief, I would say the chance of you getting a litter are slim. I would think if no tie, it would be fair to take the fee only if the bitch was confirmed in whelp.

There was no tie in this litter hence the term slip mating

I understand the term "slip mating" thank you. But the point I have made remains the same. ie - very brief slip mating = slim chance of conception.

It is what I would do if any of my boys had a slip mating.

I would trust the owner of the bitch to let me know if she had pups.  While I appreciate there would always be someone that thought it was great to get away without paying a stud fee, I would still feel that my integrity was intact.

Yes this is what we did with 1 lady last year, and yes hoped she would be honest, we never heard from her again, but a friend of hers who we know very well said the female had missed, i never gave her the registration papers anyway, so my feeling is she did miss.

I wasn't comparing the whole stud farm v dog breeding thing, just commenting that there is little confusion about fees in the horse world as it is set down in writing in advance, on the stud card.  However, in fariness to the horse world, not all stallions at stud are on big commercial operations, my former partner had an Arab and a Hanoverian who were both standing at stud at our own yard.

In a situation such as this though, when you have vetted the bitch owner (well as best anyone can) you would be confident that they would surely only be wanting a KC registered litter and so by witholding the relevant docmentation until they had paid the stud fee I should think you would be ok. Plus, with only one slip mating the odds are against there being any pups - although obviously it does happen.

Yes i would hope they would be wanting a KC reg litter, we know everyone who has used our dog so far we are lucky, they are all exhibitors so far, so i know they would all want KC regs.
