Oh my gosh it is my driving test today!!! :-O

I am soooooo nervous! the pass rate at the test center is 32% so the odds are against me already :-(

- By Cani1 [gb] Date 08.02.10 10:53 UTC
Good luck , try to stay positive . My tip for you would be to just pretend the examiner is your driving instructor and you are out on a routine lesson , that way you should have less nerves!. It worked for me many years ago.
- By Dogz Date 08.02.10 11:15 UTC
I have a friend who is a UK examiner and I know that he really is on your side.
He would be willing you on all the way, so try not to be nervous and remember these examiners are only people themselves who also want a good pass rate.
Good luck

Karen :)

now where do you live so I can keep out of your way!!

:-D :-D :-D Your so funny.

But, it is true isn't it? The real test is that first year.

I passed first time and was so excited but found driving on my own hit and miss, manoevering and roundabouts I found scary on my own yet with my driving instructor I was confident. If I'm perfectly honest after 2 weeks of driving on my own I ended up calling my instructor and asking him to come back out with me, as I felt so unconfident, after the 'lesson' he said "What is your problem you drive perfectly?" It was really nothing to do with driving, just not having that person sat next to me. I should have got a blow up doll. :-D

Mind you I did throw myself in at the deep end and was driving to work in the city of London wasn't exactly country living like now. :-D  At least unlike some of my friends my cars never had bumpers and wing mirrors hanging off, oh the trials and trivs of new drivers. :-D

I remember waiting for someone to tell me to turn it was scarey.

We had old cars and kept to them for the first year and we hit the odd wall, kerb, (car in a car park) I just did not always judge my distances. So I had my first new car at 40!! and never looked back. As my brothers had cars and Mum & Dad and we had a long drive we would often just take the car at the back. Hence I can drive lorries, vans, trucks and my own IQ.

You really need to drive for a year to be confident, but the excitement and freedom is great - also insurance is too high now a days as an old fart Im cheap.

well done to you kiger xxx

> now where do you live so I can keep out of your way!!

Ha ha ha! :-)

Surprisingly im actually more confident with out anybody sat next to me :-) Ive been driving since I was 17 (im now 22) I was in a big car accident and lucky to survive, didnt even want to get in a car again never mind drive one. I bought my own car when I was 19 and started driving with my boyfriend only short trips to see friends and family (got the car so he couldnt moan about dog hair in his car!) Last November I finaly decided I wanted to pass my test so started having lessons (I was very good at driving on the road but didnt have a clue about manouvers!) I had THE best driving instructor he was amazing. Cant belive how far I have come from not wanting to get in a car to actually passing my test 1st time with only 3 minors :-D

Its a fantastic achievement you must excuse my humour, its the ultimate freedom, I think, in my youth I took a BMW R80 Motorbike across the Sahara Desert with my sons father, Im a great believer in getting out there and doing your own thing, especially as a female. My son is 22 now (!) he has his bike licence but not car yet. I think none of you youngsters are helped by the cost of Insurance!! I was horrified at my nieces being more than her car!!

I hope you have a great time, but take care in the snow.

Wow! that must of been amazing! Its my boyfriends dream to ride his quad bike to South Africa...he thinks im going to do it too! :-O

Yeah insurance is lots, I drive a little vitara its a 1.6, ive got 2 yrs no claims and my insurance is £1000 a year, I rang them up yesterday to tell them ive passed my test and it has gone UP £87!!!

Thank you, I will be careful :-) Im on strict instructions from dad and boyfriend that I have to be very careful :-)

Have you looked at doing a 'pass plus course' ? It is 6 sessions that covers motorway driving, driving at night, driving in country lanes etc and you will find it reduces the cost of insurance. also, add someone older onto your insurance as a named driver (even if they will nver drive the car) as this also brings cost down. As tesco say 'Every little helps'!!!!
- By georgepig [gb] Date 10.02.10 20:33 UTC
Well done!

My problem when I first passed was that I actually didn't know how to get to anywhere - I never really paid much attention as a passenger!
- By ali-t [gb] Date 10.02.10 21:02 UTC
me either georgepig, I drove the bus routes for ages when going places.
- By kiger [gb] Date 11.02.10 08:39 UTC

> pass plus course

Yeah im doing pass plus only brings my insurance down 2% though! :-O a friend I know done it and her insurance came down 15%

Thank you! Im quite good with knowing what way to go....dont know how?! My mum has offered to buy me a satnav for passing my test but I would prefer the money to go towards somthing else. OH has a satnav and I can always borrow his :-)

Congrats on passing your test, I remember the elation when I finally passed!

Does anyone have any horror stories of when they were learning?  I didn't do anything terrible or funny as such but the driving instructor was awful (from a well-known three-initial driving school).

He was obviously a few slices short of a loaf, was a letch or just went on about fancying other young girls he taught. He fell asleep during 2 of my lessons, didn't turn up a couple of times and was late for most. On one occasion he decided that we would go into his local instead of teaching me to drive! That was the last straw and I swapped to another instructor from the same school who just didn't seem to care in the slightest so I switched entirely to a private ex traffic cop instructor who was great and I passed within a few weeks.

I'd never recommend a big driving school, I hope they have higher standards of training for their instructors than they did a few years ago!
