Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Question regarding qualifiers

Champion Shows.

Since I'm new to all of this show malarkey I was just wondering how the Cruft qualifiers work.
If it's a crufts qualifier show. Is it 1st 2nd and 3rd that qualify from each class? Also say it's a Minor puppy, puppy etc can these classes still qualify? Or is it just the open class that get through to Crufts?..

Sorry I'm a bit dense when it comes to all the qualifiers etc.

Thanks

Hi scotgal
1st 2nd and 3rd from MP, P, J, PG, L, O, and vetran quallify for Crufts...all at Championship show level of course. I believe BOB ?? Or at least BIS from Premier open shows qualify as well. As for the quallifiers for rare breeds I am not sure but no doubt someone will be along soon who does know.
Hope this helps

Thats great thanks. I just looked at the crufts schedule and see that there.

So say you got 1,2,3 for MP, P, J, PG, L, O it would be these classes at Crufts and you do the class you qualified for? I never thought they would have a MP class there?

They don't they have specials for younger dogs. IE Special puppy, Special Junior, you then enter according to age. For the other classes you enter according to wins like any show so if you have a CH you can only enter Open etc.. (According to the date the wins were won!!)

You have to have CCs at the championship show IF they are ever available in your breed, otherwise the placings do not qualify. If you have a non-CC breed then all champ.shows qualify even from AVNSC.

BOB only for certain breeds, they will be mentioned in the schedule. Usually it's not many.

This totally confuses me!...

How do you know if your breed of dog can get one then!?

these are all the questions to ask at ringcraft but I'm to embarrassed to ask!!

Can your breed become Champions? Then they have Championship status and will have CCs available at at least some shows during the year. It will say in each show schedule if CCs are available, it's printed next to the judge's name and classes. :) Crufts is the ONLY show were ALL breed with championship status have CCs on offer.

What is your breed?

>would be these classes at Crufts and you do the class you qualified for?

You qualify to enter Crufts, but you can then enter whichever class/es you want, and that your dog is eligible for. Say your pup was placed 2nd in Minor Puppy at a Championship Show. That would qualify him for the next Crufts, where he could be entered in any of the breed classes he wasn't too old for.

When I took up showing my dogs,I found it a mine field, but soon caught up.Good luck and hope this clarifies a few things - I certainly found it useful.

thanks all ever so much your so kind!

I have a wee pug, well saying that he isnt so wee now, hes 4 months old and the past month he has grown so much im losing my puppy boohooo ;-(

I never once thought i would get into dog showing, i used to show horses but dog showing never really done it for me. But people have got me into it and i really enjoy ringcraft and everyone love my pup and keep offering to be his handler! So i think i may give it a shot myself!

One woman even offered to show him around Europe fo rme once hes old enough. I could never do this, hes like my baby, i miss him even when im at work for just 2 hours!

No, there are four representative shows - Crufts, The National, SKC (May) and Welsh KC - at which CCs are on offer for all eligible breeds.

Does anyone know why Yearling is not a qualifier but Junior is?

It has to be Special Yearling that qualifies not Yearling
- By ho1mer [gb] Date 09.02.10 08:20 UTC
special yearling only qualifies if the breed is in stud book band E

every breed class winner at crufts quailifies for the following year
- By MADDOG [gb] Date 09.02.10 17:22 UTC
Yes but why?  I can understand Novice & Maiden as they are classes that you win out of, but yearling is an age class like Minor Puppy, Puppy, Junior & Veteran.

Minor Puppy, Puppy & Junior Special Yearling are from 6 months to 9/12/18/24, whereas Yearling is 12-24months

I know I'm going to seem incredibly thick but I still don't understand why a 1st in yearling doesn't qualify you for Crufts, sorry Lexy but I don't!  You give the top ages of each class but why does it matter if there is a class for a specific age group & MP,P, J & SY qualify you for Crufts (special age group classes) then why does a specific age group of 12-24 months mean that you can't qualify for Crufts from that class?

What am I missing here?
- By Lexy [gb] Date 10.02.10 08:22 UTC
Neither Special Yearling or Yearling was a qualifying class until a few years ago & the KC decided that Special Yearling was a qualifying class.
To find out why one qualifies & the other doesn't you better ask the KC
- By MADDOG [gb] Date 10.02.10 17:26 UTC
Yes I suppose I should really.  Just one of those niggly things that's bugged me (bit like why ringcraft matches that are KC registered have to be two dogs at a time instead of alike a show).  I feel a soap box is about to appear :-D
- By Lexy [gb] Date 10.02.10 17:29 UTC
That's easy..it's like 2 teams play against each other in a football match/rugby match/tennis match etc & they knock each other out in the same way, which means 2 go agianst 2 until the last 2 then you get Best in Match
- By dollster [gb] Date 10.02.10 21:29 UTC
Yearling qualifies for crufts not Special yearling.

The only 'special' classes that qualify are those at crufts it self.

yearling then only qualifies for those breeds in stud band E
- By Lexy [gb] Date 10.02.10 21:39 UTC
doh...of course, silly me confusing myself there...been a long time since mine were that age lol
