Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Puppies opening their eyes early?

I'm curious as to at what age your pups tend to open their eyes as my last litter (first one for about 15yrs) started to open them at around 2 weeks. However my bitch whelped 8 days ago (she had 14 bless her) and I noticed last night that one pup had started to open its left eye, and this morning it is almost open fully. 3 other pups are looking like their eyes are starting to open as well. 8 days seems a little early from what I have seen before. All 3 pups are mid range in terms of size, weight and development. I'm just curious as to what you experience with yours. They are very large breed.

Ours usually open their eyes around 12 days, mine are 9 days with no sign of eyes opening yet, i guess each litter is different.

Usually around 2 weeks. What I have noticed though and it was the same when I bred Persian cats, the smallest in the litter opened their eyes first.

2 weeks with me and I think thats about average but like bitches and their supposedly 11-13 day ovulations, I don't suppose puppies read the book either.

My puppies are 8 days today and most of them have half opened eyes, I must say this is early for my breed its normally about 12-14 days.

Several years back I had a litter (not my current breed) that had to be delivered via c-section a week early, 12 pups (there had been no signs of the bitch going into whelp but she had a slight green discharge so signs of foetal distress). Definitely they were premature and had been plucked out early - very bald feet and ears. Anyway, they were 18 -21 days before their eyes started to open ! It was most odd as some of them managed to get mobile before that. I had been getting worried as you can imagine and vet just told me if not starting to open by around day 18 to bring them in, booked them in, only to discover that day that a few of them were finally opening !
