I've done a search on here but nothing came up so...
I have a 4 month old pup who is a litle stunner. But I have noticed she has started to crab, swinging her back end out to the left. Shes very young I know but I want to nip this in the bud before it gets a habit with her. Any ideas to stop her doing it?

Do you have a narrow hallway you can train her in. Crabbing is usually just a habit so if you train her (heelwork on a lead) in a long narrow hallway she should get out of the habit.

Her crabbing could also be due to her back legs growing faster than her front ones  ;-)

When you walk her you could also keep her close to a wall so that she can't crab.

My girl started doing this for a few shows so i started to move her on the opposite side to usual so it stopped her. I then gave her a rest for 4 weeks and the next show she came out she moved perfectly and won the CC! It was definately just a habit she got into as it stopped as quickly as it started!

I had one that used to do it.  Somewhere on CD someone suggested a stick with something on it infront of the dog (I used a bamboo stick for the dog to follow with his nose - it really worked)  Also heard that wall tops are good for this (as obviously is the narrow hallway, you can do this with a sofa & wall too)  - be careful doing the wall thouse :-O

If the conformation is right it can be trained out.  Good luck.

why bamboo stick? and was there anything on the end to entice him? i think my silly b***er would just jump about trying to get to the stick, any other ideas as mine just pulls to get head down to sniff floor

No it was just a bamboo stick (I didn't say he was bright lol!)  A shortish bamboo stick because it was long enough to have far enough in front of his nose whilst travelling at speed.

As for the head down, I was taught a mixture of using the lead & a treat right on the end of the nose, take two paces & reward then build up (doesn't do wonders for looking silly but works eventually!)
