I am sure that there are already threads on this topic, but with new products being made available all the time,I thought I would ask you advice.Oggie is a Canadian Eskimo Dog,so double coated with a long coat.He is the dirtiest dog imaginable, rolls in everything and the areas especially around his neck gets really grubby.I used to use just a standard blue based whitening shampoo that I used on my Mals white bits, but was disappointed with the results on Oggie.I was going to try the Wahl whitening shampoo, but the guy from Hub recommended white lightening from all systems.I have tried it once, and will continue for a few washes.Any suggestions welcome.Jude.

Hi , i have samoyeds and when they are really dirty i use horse shampoo , its great at getting mud , grass and stuborn staines out , i have tried a few and they are all equally good, buy them from a equine site they are much cheaper,  i tried the white lightening shampoo and didnt get good results, some times if they are stained you just have to let it grow out unfortunatly, hope this helps

Hi Jude, ideally you want something with a purple tone to it. The problem with alot of whitening shampoos is that they dont really whiten or remove stains, they just tone whats there. Ive found that Chris Christensen White on White brought Mel's Pied Husky bitch up really white to the point that the judge commented on how clean she was! Ive never had much luck with the white lightening, infact I found the Wahl one better but each to their own I guess. I use Plush Puppy Whitening on the girls but it doesnt lighten, just gets rid of warm tones in the coat, and they are no where near the mud monster that Oggie is! Hopefully when he loses his adorable fluffy puppy coat, his adult coat will be a bit more stain resistant.  Just a tip, if you get a shampoo that gets him clean, use some of the All systems protein conditioner (on the dirt prone areas) diluted well to seel the hair shafts to prevent them staining so much.

Thanks Carol, the one I normally use on the Mals has the purply tone.Works well on the Mals, but not Oggie.I have a protien conditioner that I have used around the back of Oggies ears as the Fur tends to seperate here and has a natural brown tint.He has no staining just a very mucky pup.Hes in his crate at the mo as he and kezzie have had a long off lead romp at Carloggas downs. It is lovely to see them run and be 'dogs' but now he is absolutely filthy so off to bath him AGAIN!!!!(second time this week OMG.)Do you leave some of the conditioner in Carol or completely rinse it off.
PS  Carol kezzie had her first critique this week in Dog World Manchester NSC.Lovely :)

Would be worried about using Hydrogen peroxide on a dogs coat myself -had a bad experience on my hair when I was younger!!Wouldn't it make it dry and brittle and loose its general condition?

I never leave the conditioner in. I dont like to condition a whole (show) coat because it can make the coat heavy and not stand off the body as much. If I need to condition I usually dilute a desertspoon to about 250ml and add to a spray bottle and put it on that way. The only thing I do occassionally leave in is diluted Seabreeze oil from Plush puppy. Its probably just his fluffy puppy coat texture thats making it so tricky. I'd give the White on White a try. I dont think you will ever be able to keep him from getting so dirty, just have to deal with the effects. Although I would worry with having to bath so often that you could end up stripping all of the oils from his coat, so maybe find a very mild shampoo for the wash down and use a whitener for the shows. Maybe hes just jealous of Kezzies markings and wants some of his own!

Saw the write up online yesterday, and yes it is lovely.

I dont know your breed very well but with my beardies when they get muddy I just let it dry and brush it out couldnt be bathing them all the time not enough hours in the day!! :)
A good product to stop muck clinging to the coat is The stuff ..soak the coat when not showing and let it dry .

Take a look at the plush puppy site in particular the seabreeze oil. Its diluted 5ml to a litre and used as a final rinse. Really does help keep the coats in good condition when they take alot of abuse so to speak.
Not at ringcraft tonight, Mums godmother died last night and we were very close as she was the one that got us into showing. One of my drummers is playing at the Keay so going to take my mind off of things. Will see you next week tho hopefully.

Have you thought about Vitacoat Grooming Powder as it has optical whiteners in it?  This was recommended to me when I was showing my tipped cat.  You shouldn't wash a British coat as it makes it too soft and it should be firm & plush.  I used to work it into the coat and then leave for a couple of days, give a good brush out.  Re-apply and show morning give the coat a good brush again.

Thanks for all your replies,I have ordered some Chris Christensen white on white.Just happy that he stayed white enough for his first show yesterday, but me thinks the juge wouldn't have noticed.
