Hi
A friend wants me to pay in some money for her at the bank ( she can't get in herself ) but has no paying-in book. Am I able to pay it in over the counter just by giving her account number?

Yes they will probably have paying in slips in the bank for you to put account name, account number and sort code. As long as you have those things you should be fine.

No luck there - I bank at the same place and they got rid of those when they installed the new 'techno' deposit machines!

Just the account number and account name should be fine then! They generate the account details on their computer!!

I did this last year when my daughter went away for the weekend then on the way home discovered that her cheap rail tickets were for the wrong day and of course she didn't have enough in her account to cover the cost of new tickets!! I went to the bank with her account number written on a piece of paper and handed it to the clerk explaining what had happened and they paid my money into her account no problem.

I recon its the taking out they worry about !!!! sure it will be fine.

I work in a bank & as long as you have the correct sortcode & account number the money can been put in the account, you cannot take money out this way though.
