Hello CD!!

Havent posted in a while, been so busy with my babies (the min pins of course!)

Reba has gotten a couple bald spots, one being really noticable.  I have read up on aleopecia (sp?) and it doesnt sound like that.

She was at the vets 2 weeks ago, and they suspected staph infection.  She was put on AB for two weeks, and just finished them this morning.

She has also been getting bathed with Hibitine soap, and sprayed with Tea Tree Oil.  I have been adding salmon oil to her food, and sea greens as well.  She was dewormed with Interceptor 3 weeks ago.

Anyways, it seems her one bald spot is really getting more noticable.  Its on her rear leg, just above her knee.  she has thinning of hair around her ears and eyes as well.  Her skin is blackening, and its getting rougher, but I would not say scaley.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be???  She is entered in a show in 3 weeks (if the hair isnt back fully, its not a big deal, I can chalk her and its not on the show side)

Please Help!

Have you blood tested for hypothyroidism?

Also have they done skin scrapings for mites?

I too would be getting the vet to check for mites if bacterial infection has been ruled out.  Failing that if you have no joy, it might be something he's allergic too.

I have not tested for thyroid as of yet, because she just came out of season and had a false pregnancy.  The vet wants to wait to test.  Both her parents are clear of thyroid though.

I am gonna call the vets this morning, and see about a skin scrapping.  They didnt do one last time, the vet was sure it was staph.  But after talking to another pin breeder, she thinks it could be demodex or ringworm.  Oh joy.

Might be worth giving her Vit B complex and evening primrose, it could well be hormonal imbalance if she's recently had season and phantom

> she thinks it could be demodex or ringworm

well I put Revolution on her yesterday, after talking with my vets office.  The said that it isnt demodex, but a small possibility its ringworm.  So they ok'd the treatment for ringworm.  Hopefully this helps, and her coat will come back in.

I had the scare of my life this morning, when I went to let Reba outside!  Where I had put the Revolution, the hair was white!  Well, after my heart skipping several beats, my mom took a cloth and washed where it was white.  The Revolution dried white, and it didnt change her haircolour.  Thank goodness!  Things that happen when you are still half asleep!
