Hey everyone its me again could not wait so took my little girl along to a sheep scanner There yipee the woman can see
changes so she has definately caught BUT how common is reabsorbtion in giant breeds i know in some its more common i go back next week
for my 2 scan when she will be 30 days Has any one else been scanned this early i am over the moon x

I also have a question about reabsorbing .... I have search like mad to find the answer .

My question is does the whole litter get reabsorbed or just some ?

Actually two questions lol , the second is about discharge everywhere i read pretty much says anything other than clear is not good.... has anyone's girls had a coloured discharge & then gone on to have pups ?

the whole litter can be reabsorbed. many eggs are fertilized beforehand, the the bitch absorbs most that her body feels are weak, even some of the good eggs. but occasionally her system may go into overdrive and absorb the lot :-( or her body may think that all te eggs were too weak

congratulations i know how hard it is to wait for a scan ive gotta wait another 2 and half weeks!!

can a sheep scanner detect earlier than one the vets have?

i wouldnt have thought so, i just think a S S has more experience in finding them, and are cheaper so not so much money is wasted if it shows up trumps

the woman was lovley and it cost £20 Also cause she could only tell the changes but no numbers ect i get  to go back next week  x

all the litter can be reabsorbed but its also for just some, we had one of our girls done at 30 weeks, you could clearly see 5 pups, the scanner also saw a 6th pup but said it was in the process of been reabsorbed, our dog went on to only have 4 pups, so the 5th that was seen and looked ok must have also been reabsorbed.

our giirl was scanned with 5 puppies she went on to have 4, no one knows really why ther reabsorb, wa stalking about it to the guy that scans our dogs, he said the females body attacks embryo;s that are not quite correct, this embryo shuts down and shrinks to the size of a marble, when the litter is born the marble sized embryo is actually born but you would never see it, it comes down with a puppy, fascinating eh? and yes a whole litter can be reasorbed this way, scarey.
A clear discharge is ok but a coloured discharge is a vet visit.
Earliest we have had ours scanned is 28 days, but i really like leaving it later but got talked into a 28 day scan by my hubby, he wouldnt wait lol x

We've got our girl booked in for the 12th at 4.30pm to have her scan, she will be 27 days...ohhhhhhhhhhh..butterflies in the tummy in now!!!!!!!

Ah i felt like that, our girl was 28 days from mating on xmas eve, but i wouldnt let the guy scan her then as was scared in case she hadnt caught, didnt want to be down on xmas day, he came boxing day, i could hardly look at the screen, hope you get good news, good luck x

Quick Question..... I had my girl scanned at 28 days and the vet said she taught she seen 1 poss 2 pups,
took her back at 36 days and she said no puppies there,

has anyone ever got there bitch scanned and told no pups and the bitch went on to have 1 or 2??

To be honest its usually down to how good the vet is at spotting the pups, Iv known somebody told no pups and the bitch had 9 :)

Oh god, was told by a friend after it was done that the vet that done it isnt that great! :-S

Her glands are slightly swollen, and nipples are bigger and she is sleepier than normal but hasnt put much weight on.....
she would be 40 days today.... Just dont no what to do as if shes not in pup i have to start getting her ready for crufts!

then why not get her blood tested you will know for sure :) and then go to crufts if not.

pups can be reabsorbed upto around 45 days so numbers can never really be accurate untill after then

I had my girl scanned at day 31 and 11 pups were seen. 9 looked big and strong  but 2 looked a little smaller. we went back 2 weeks later. 8 were seen clearly and one was seen in the process of being reabsorbed. We saw the skull but not much behind it, because she is so far in to the pregnancy we have been advised that we will probally have the remains passed with some afterbirth. yummy. either way ... 17 days to go!
