How are all you other (draws on the NHS doing!!!) sorry about the sarcasm - :-P

Finding dog walks so much easier as well. keep posting and we can gee each other along.

- By Whistler [gb] Date 28.01.10 12:51 UTC
It is but I was huge and decided to really take myself in hand before I got to 55.

I want to be size 14 again as I was before and after Ben was born (he's nearly 25) I want to be who I feel i ought to be not where I find myself at 54.

Funny really I have not felt capable of changing much up to late last year!
- By Dogz Date 28.01.10 14:28 UTC
Fantastic!
You are doing so well and you are an inspiration, 4st 2lb is remarkable.
My confession is that I am still avoiding the scales.....On Tuesday at the anaesthetist I again asked ' not to know my weight'.
If this is the last of my surgery (tomorrow) then I will recover a bit and then go for it with diet and exercise.
So please keep posting about this and keep me (and others ) inspired.

Karen  :) :)

> I cant be asked to get up!!!

Whistler..........that is so funny..........
When myu daughter was about 4 or 5 she said the same....'I cant be asked'.
It was so funny she thought that was what she had heard others say, when in fact it was 'I cant be a****'.
Her brothers of course not me !

Karen ;) ;)

I desperately need to start a diet... I have no motivation as the weather is rubbish.

> I have lost 6lbs rhis month a drop in the ocean but a start

Ditto, still up 3 pounds on end of November weight.

Still up a stone and a half on my best 2008 weight.

So two stone I want to loose.
- By furriefriends Date 28.01.10 19:49 UTC
I wondered what a dress size equated to now I no. I like the sarcasm whistler LOL
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 28.01.10 20:02 UTC
Think it depends - on the individual and on the shops sizes. If i lost a stone i would go down at least 2 dress sizes
- By ClaireyS Date 28.01.10 21:45 UTC
well done Whistler :)

Im still knocking on the door of 2.5 stone (about 2lb off  - had a bit of a gain over xmas !! ) by Crufts I would like to be at my WW goal which is 10st 8lb I think, or it might be 10st 6lb, I cant remember now.  By my daughters first birthday in May I would like to be under 10 stone and back in a size 10.
- By briedog [gb] Date 28.01.10 22:18 UTC
whister what diet are you on then to do so well.
- By Whistler [gb] Date 29.01.10 08:03 UTC
Lighter life under my Doctor as well, its the keeping off that will be my biggest challange I reached (ashamed to say) 18st 8lbs.
- By Whistler [gb] Date 29.01.10 09:32 UTC
Life definately begins at 50 Im 54 now and feeling great.
Ive got a pair of bright red trousers that are my goal by my birthday so I keep getting them out of the cupboard when I feel like cheating my diet!!

My Dad gave me some cash for Christmas and I have a  rainy day purse in my draw for a new wardrobe and I put money away regularly.
- By briedog [gb] Date 29.01.10 13:08 UTC

- By Whistler [gb] Date 29.01.10 13:25 UTC
No problem it works for me I buy what food I need for the week and thats what I eat easy. May not suit all users but it has worked for me so far.

I want to be size 14 about 10 -11 stone max so a bit to go yet,
- By briedog [gb] Date 29.01.10 19:21 UTC
well done like you said it suited you.
- By Cairnmania [gb] Date 30.01.10 11:28 UTC
I've lost 7 stone since Jan 09 and still have a bit to go.  Like you Whistler, my goal is a size and not a specific number on the scale.

I finally figured out that I stress out too much when on a specific food plan and my resolve crumbles.   I have not felt like I'm on a diet at all because I eat so much.   All I've done is substitute healthly choices (low fat, very low sugar, lots of complex carbohydrates, lots and lots of veg, and lean protein of some sort) for my former plan of "eat anything I want, as much as I want, whenever I want".   There is no such thing as "cheating" for me, so on social occassions I will have some wine, pudding or whatever.

BTW, I'm 58 and I cannot believe it took me so long to understand what works for me.
- By Whistler [gb] Date 01.02.10 08:23 UTC
Fantastic may I ask what made you take the decision? Ive been piling it on for a few years (Im 54). But I wasnt that fussed, I went to my Dads wedding in September, picked a nice dress and the pictures of me with my two handsome son's was awful - talk about save the whale. I took a stand there and then and that was it!!

I just eat when Im bored, or happy. Now I know what Im going to eat and so I do not worry about it any more. If I need a "taste" I grab some grated cheese and that does the trick.

I think my problem has been remembering that you always clear your plate.
- By Hugos There [gb] Date 01.02.10 10:38 UTC
Whistler what a fantastic result, you're an inspiration. I hope I can do as well.

I lost quite a lot last year, and then an accident left me in pain and self medicating with food. As a result I'm bigger than ever.
I refuse to be fat and 40 and as I only have control of one of these, I have started a new diet. So far I have lost 8lb over the last 2 weeks, I still have along way to go, I need to lose about another 5 1/2st, but I have made a start.

It's my birthday in April and my first goal is to have lost 2st in time for my party.
- By Whistler [gb] Date 01.02.10 11:15 UTC
Not another Taurus!!! way to go, trouble is we are foodies but its full steam ahead and a new dress for you on your birthday.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 01.02.10 11:27 UTC
Well 12st 12lb today 9 lbs lost since January the first, and back to the weight I was at the end of November.

Still a stone and a half over my best weight since 2008, and half a stone heavier than on my wedding day.

I want to get down under 12st for my wedding anniversary.

Wow Cairmania I've only just spotted this. Another fantastic loss. All these great stories really are encouraging especially when there are so many negative views out there.

I have a similar plan to you and it is the first time I've not followed a specific diet but it seams to be working so far. I have also switched to having my main meal at lunch time instead of the evening. I found that as I am used to eating less during the day it's really helped me to get the hang of smaller portion sizes. I think the key for me has been to see it as a new way of life and not a diet.  I haven't been hungry at all yet, but it is still very early days.
- By Cairnmania [gb] Date 03.02.10 11:39 UTC
Whistler,

I think what got me started was last January I was made redundant and my husband's health went downhill.  So I found myself in the situation with no job (the one I had I could work at home), no prospects of a new job, and a husband who needed a carer.  It must have been self preservation, because I could not handle being morbidly obese and gaining weight at the same time as losing my job and caring for my husband.

I refused to get on the scale for the first two months because I was a afraid I would be so discouraged I would give up before I started.  I only got on the scale after all of the clothes that I just could manage to squeeze into were so loose I could no longer wear them.  Slowly, but steadily losing weight and feeling better about myself is what has kept me sane.   I feel great about myself for the first time in a long, long time.  I hope you feel great too!
- By Cairnmania [gb] Date 03.02.10 11:42 UTC
Hugo,

"the key for me has been to see it as a new way of life and not a diet"

Me too.  I could never diet this long!   There are still some little indulgences I'd like to cut out and generally just cut a bit back on some things (like portion size), but I'm in no rush and I don't put any pressure on myself.

Mine was the photo the boys looked so handsome and I was a blob, plus moving house for a year to a much smaller space and I decided to change a lot. I admit I had a few tears, my sons are mine from a previous marriage and even though my OH and I have been together 20 years, I have always felt I could offer my two a HOME if they needed it. So when I couldnt due to size of the flat I was grizzly for a few days - odd!!
But I have alos changed my hair style, and just me. My resolution was to be who I want to be, not what I have ended up becoming. If you catch my drift at last I feel able to take who i am in my own hands and not react but be pro active - hence Lighter Life.

Im a size 16 now size 14 about 12 stone or just under will do and I hope Im there by my 55th on 30th April.

Excuse me (pig pooh) Whistler is trying to sit on my lap and he def. needs a bath.

I do feel great and also sorry in a way I let it go so long, it did not help that my OH never compligned and my youngest son always says Im not fat but cuddly - I was obese Im not now. Good luck to us both at least something is within our control even if fate isnt always our friend.

Well Done you ladies!
I always said I wouldn't have the willpower to diet if I had to. Now I'm trying to figure out how, despite giving up alcohol, cheese & chocolate since before Christmas I've managed to put on a good 1/2 stone. I thought I was burning off pounds stomping through all that snow with the dogs. Having found out that 2 pairs of my trousers are now really tight in the legs when I sit down I've had to resort to buying stretchy ski pants dammit! Has anyone tried the Special K diet? I will have to do something, bits are heading south fast!
