Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / silent seasons

Hi, my bitch is just over 9 months and im pretty sure she has just finished her first season..but there was no bleeding or swelling or any signs at all. The only reason im thinking she was in season is because of my friends stud dog. We were out for walks together and he was VERY interested to the point of having to be put on the lead for the walk. He's never been interested before and yesterday when we met, he wasnt interested.

Now in a few years im hoping that things will work out so i can have a litter from her. What im wondering is..does a bitch that has a silent season always then go on to have silent seasons for the rest of her life? If so, does it making breeding more difficult?..or even not recommended?

And finally, is there anything that can be done to encourage them not to be silent?!

Thanks!..and sorry if the questions are a little daft!

Sometimes a bitch will smell nicely a few weeks before actually coming in properly. So your girl might come in properly soon.

I have a bitch that had normal seasons until she had her first litter. In the 3 years (almost) since then her seasons have become silent. Thankfully ( or not  ) I have a male in the house that tells me that she is coming in so that I can take precautions.

Thanks for the reply..the reason i thought she had had a season was because of the males high interest and then his sudden dis-interest when they met again this weekend.
He is a stud dog so is only usually interested at peak times.
