I have a Chinese Crested puppy who's just turned 12 weeks old. He was purchased from an extremely reputable breeder (has had many top 10 dogs and had the top dog in this breed in France a couple years ago) but I have noticed that this puppy has one readily palpated testicle. The other is able to be brought down into the scrotum if I slide my fingers along the base of his sheath in his inguinal region and it yields the testicle in the scrotum. How concerned should I be about this testicle not staying down? I've been "massaging" it nightly and he hates it and frankly so do I. I feel like a perv. This is the first time I've ever had to deal with this. Will be heading to the vets in a week for his last shots and I'll bring it up to them as well. The breeder has said not to worry, to massage it, that she hasn't had this issue in the past etc. I have no reason to doubt her due to her reputation. The other boys in his litter have been reported as just fine. This puppy was her pick and I only received him due to my long standing reputation with her as I've shown multiple dogs for her to finished Championships.
I would give him some time for the testicle to drop. However, most testis are descended at this time. I'm not familiar with your breed & if this may be common? I would have thought that if the testicle was retained, that you wouldn't be able to move it down a all? So maybe there is hope it will drop naturally? Hope I make sense? lol
I would leave be for the moment , I'm sure if it's there and the way you're describing it will come down in it's own time. My frenchie boys don't fully drop until around 17 weeks. So try not to worry too much about it , speak to your vet and I'm sure he'll say similar and it'll put your mind at rest a bit.
Checked my records. He was born Oct 27. that puts him at almost 14 weeks. At times the testicle is in the sac. Like I noticed tonight when he was laying on his back that they were both there and then the one that hasn't fully dropped sucked back up. I'm hoping it resolves on it's own since he's coming up on 4 months of age. No matter what I'm keeping him whether I need to have him neutered or not. I love him and he's my constant shadow. I'm not aware of this being common in the breed. I do know that my retired show boy came to me at 12 weeks with both testis loud and proud. This boy is a powder puff and not a hairless so I wonder if that makes a difference.
I only mess with it due to receiving advice. I'll let it go for a bit and see what happens. He's a phenomenal show prospect with extremely exalted lines. His sire's lineage is so rare now a days due to a kennel fire which is very sad. Neither kennel has had a cryptorchid dog in over 16 years and those two dogs were not used for breeding and were from outside stock. It's stressing the breeder out also. This boy's paternal uncle was the top chinese crested PP in America and went top 20 in the toy group all systems two years ago and he's almost identical to him. His Dam is a stunning bitch who finished her championship in the US in the blink of an eye. We have such high hopes for him so I know that's why we're freaking out a bit.
I think messing about with it is making things worse. I never mess with any of my males. Although I've had puppy owners contact me because their vet has told them to castrate as they are not down at 12 weeks!!
But the owners that listened, and waited, contacted me later to say that they're down.
The fact that you can see and feel it I would have thought was a good indicator although I am no expert and he is still very young. Dont know about cresties but in other breeds I have heard up to year befor the testicle stays fully down. My gsd only had one testicle the other was in his abdomen but it had never made an appearance so again the fact it is there is hopefully positive. Please remember I am an interested ametur where dogs are concerned so only my opinion. mind I am jealous cresties are on my evergrowing listed of wanted breeds in my case the hairless.
My rott boy's didn't properly come down until about 6 months and now 'the twins' are definitely all there! There are a couple of threads on here about it.
