In a word NO.  And my matetel got ditched as I have a non drooling breed with not much spit!  So it just didn't work.  Both were a total waste of money for me.  If you decide to try the pads, careful you don't cut your bitch, the edges are sharp.

Totally agree with JeanSW, both are a waste of money, we too have a breed with not a lot of saliva, in fact when I did try I swear that one of my girls used to swallow shen she saw me approaching with the device!! it's in the back of the dog cupboard and can stay there!  Pads far too sharp for me and will not be using them again.  Idexx is the way to go I think.

Never tried any of these products, but Idexx is the best test i believe, although we use our local vet for a premate and she has always been spot on.

id be terrified of cutting with the pads and causing infection. i hear they are really sharp, and very difficult to read according to testimonials.

I think the matetel are excellent used every time and found it to be spot on. I get the bitch to produce saliva by sitting holding a dog treat for a few minutes lift the lip catch the saliva them give the treat . you do only need a minute drop but you have to let it dry completely to get a good reading, I usually pop it on the fireplace and forget about it for a few hours.

Found matetel utterly useless, I think you must need copious amounts of saliva to get a result. Fortunately they were happy to refund me and I sent it back.

Personally, I find an ovulation scan by far the most effective way of determining the right time to have a bitch mated. Keith Shea is very good at this, but he only covers the North West.

Yes Keith is fantastic at his job,

I dont think copious amounts of saliva are needed the glass on the microscope is tiny itself .Its down to whatever you prefer to use for your bitch.

I'm still unconvinced about any scientific evidence that either of these products work other than pure coincidence (after all the conception rate is pretty high in mated bitches).

If such simple things worked then reproductive vets would not need to do invasive laboratory blood tests would they.

Ovatel exactly the same item

I  personally think they work, not having a dog to let me know when the best time to go to stud was, I've used this product a few times and each time was right, previously I just went when I 'thought' it was the right time and have come away without a mating, but since using this we've got a mating on the day we got the good strong ferning.

Waste of money for small breeds

Definitely true for my small breed.  To be fair, I've never used it on the Collies, as I don't breed from them.  But Chihuahuas?  Never worked at all for me.
