Hi all

Can anyone recommend a good show trolley to hold 2 dogs (toys).  I have seen some rather cheap ones (£175 plus £7.50 P&P) on Ebay but am wondering if I'd be better off splashing out on a good name one?  All thoughts much appreciated :)

Perhaps some of you here have what I am looking for and can give me your views on them please?

Thank you :)

I've got this one for showing 3 CKCS and am delighted with it.
http://www.dogshowtrolleys.com/midi.html

I had the larger standard with small wheels but resold it last year for this one. It seems a hassle with the seperate wheels but it's not really, certainly the ease of pushing far makes up for any downside. The resale value was excellent too.

Getting the smaller size has also stopped me entering too many dogs... a bonus :-)

Hi, thanks for that!  I notice it says that the cage can be used separately from the wheels on the all terrain versions - can you then use the cage for travelling in the back of an estate car?

I will have to have one with 2 separate compartments as with my breed being hairless I can't risk any scratches to the skin :(

But these are the trolleys I have been looking at - did you also buy they cover for it that they sell?

Also how much "faffing" about does having the removable wheels entail?  I'd hate to get drowned in the rain whilst trying to attach the cage to the wheels.

Yes I did for Manchester because I had someone with me who could assist lifting cage plus trolley onto wheels. I have a Mercedes estate and had unscrewable handles so it could fit in widthways. I do feel they are safer in it in the back than a bog standard crate, it's like a fortress :-)
Normally I have it dismantled and assemble when I get to the venue.
I dont find it too bad now I'm used to it. I keep the wheels assembled and just have to put one on t'other.
Yes I have the cover...essential I think.

Wouldn't be without it and short of buying a people carrier to wheel it up intact, which I wont, I find this the best method so far.

I bought the Double decker one and cover, from the same company for my pugs. Cost £350 and extra for the cover.  I have never had to fold it down as i just put it in the back of my van as it is , so cannot tell you how easy it is to dismantle. I have seen others breaking there's down and it looks quite simple.

Hi Blossom,
I see from your avatar that you have cresties. We travel ours in croft cages and have a seperate trolley that just sits on and we have a top that goes onto the cages for grooming, obviously the cages get bunjied on when moving for safety, never had a problem and I also use the same set up for my Shih Tzu's. Find this a lot easier than having to travel them in different cages. We use the trolley with large wheels which is great to go anywhere and is usually two high ie four cages!! I actually have a brand new trolley with pneumatic wheels which I bought and have never used as my other trolley wheel got broken and I couldn't find anywhere that sold new ones!! Then before it arrived I found a supplier for wheels the old trolley!!

Ahh this is good to know.  I have a Fiat Stilo Estate - I can also lay the back seats down so that it is an even bigger space - does it go proper way up if left up?

Please excuse me if I am coming across as a dimwit now (lol) what do you mean by - "lifting cage plus trolley onto wheels"?  Does the cage not just go onto the wheels?  How difficult is it to do?  I really wish the site had more photos of these things.

I will be travelling to the majority of Champ shows by myself so need something I am able to do alone.

Is it really hugely better to push than the bog standard wheels?  I am thinking of things being easier for me, but I would also like my dogs to be able to travel in whatever I buy - although this is hugely essential just more practical.

Thanks again :)
- By Blossom [nl] Date 26.01.10 13:33 UTC
Hi Joe

Are the trolleys you uses ones that transform into a grooming table?  Or is it just a trolley and as you say you buy the grooming tops to go on your crates?  Sorry to appear so silly, brain is fuddled lol!

:)

If you get one from that site...dont get the small wheels......I did and they were so awful it's like pulling a sledge in anything other than ideal weather.
I nearly left it at Windsor in the mud because it just wouldn't shift. A friend and I had to carry it!!
The wheels on my new one come as one piece which can be broken further down to three pieces but I dont bother.
The cage bit is one piece which folds flat. If I use the cage bit in the back of the car with dogs in, I would have to lift it onto the wheel base.

It sounds much more complicated than it is. Paul and Jill  ( manufacturers) will, no doubt, be at UK toy...why dont you wait till then and they will show you?

I have the same one as toolz- He will put a seperator down the middle for you to split it down if needed.
The big wheels are great and folds flat in 3 mins into boot. I travel the dogs in plastic vari kennels rather than leave cage up.

We looked at the Ebay ones too and tempted because of the price as I'm not sure we'd use it that often.  Not sure whether it'll be harder to get into buildings than sticking with folding crates down and getting them in on sack truck and walking the dogs in

> getting them in on sack truck and walking the dogs in

After hours of bathing my lot...the last thing I would do...I'd rather not go.
- By Blossom [nl] Date 26.01.10 18:35 UTC
Won't the midi be too small sectioned into 2?
- By ANNM172 [gb] Date 26.01.10 19:09 UTC Edited 26.01.10 19:11 UTC
Depends on the breed - Would be fine for paps but mine like cuddling in.
He showed me one he had made to order at Manchester- Someone had had it made 2" bigger for more room.
I looked at the ones on ebay at a show by kennel sales but there were sharp ages and did not look well made. Dog show trollies man often sells second hand ones when people trade up and they are resonably priced. He doesn't put them on display but if he has any he will show you if you ask
- By Blossom [nl] Date 26.01.10 19:18 UTC
Thanks for this.  Is he normally at the Champ shows?

:)
- By ANNM172 [gb] Date 26.01.10 19:20 UTC
Yes almost all of them. I drove him mad for ages before I bought mine (second hand) and he has given me a price for having it back later if I want to trade up. He is so patient and will help in any way he can. I am delighted with mine and would recommend him to anyone.
- By tooolz Date 26.01.10 19:50 UTC
They are Cavalier people and go to the ones Jill is entered at which includes breed shows.

As I said..... UK Toy and the CKCS club champ show at Malvern in early march.

Why not ring them and ask?
- By joec [gb] Date 26.01.10 23:18 UTC
Hi,
the one we use is just the trolley and the cages sit on top. The handle folds down for going in car. If you are at Crufts you can see the one we use. Or I can try and get a photo and email it to you if you want, just to give you the idea.

Cheers
- By Blossom [nl] Date 27.01.10 08:19 UTC
Thanks everyone for your help with this I really appreciate it.

I would prefer the all-terrain wheels but am worried that it is 10kg heavier than the one with normal wheels.  I will use it in the car to travel the dogs in too so would need to be able to lift it in and out myself - although there will always be someone to help me it would be nice not to have to rely on others all of the time!

Sorry Tooolz - I got a bit confused and didn't realise it was the same man that also sells them 2nd hand!  Brain is mushed!!

:)

I have a couple of questions - I hope you don't mind!

How beneficial are the removal handles and why might they be chosen over the standard ones?

Also those of you that have these did you buy the grooming mat for the top also?

I really want a cover with my affix on too lol!!
- By tooolz Date 07.02.10 21:39 UTC

To me they are very useful: when my car is full I put the trolly up and travel my dogs in it to leave more room, so taking the handles off makes it fit perfectly in the back.

I dont have one, I just use a white towel.

I have a plain cover and no ID at all.
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 08.02.10 01:59 UTC
Agree with Toolz about the handles, trolley comes with a rubber mat for the top, cover with your affix embroidered on it costs approx £95 with the trolley.

I buy shower mats by the meter from Dunelms to use as a grooming mat and I also have fabric ones made for me. :-)
- By Blossom [nl] Date 08.02.10 10:36 UTC
I asked Jill what is on the top of the trolley shoudl I not buy the grooming mat and she said that it is textured plastic and I would hate to not be properly organised and to cause my dogs to slip etc so it might be best that I buy the grooming mat which is £12.

So the removable handles are a must then yes?  £20 for them too lol!!

The cover is £85, to have my affix on it that an additional £25.

Is the cover waterproof?

I will be having the 2 berth all terrain trolley and definitely need to travel my girls separately - if you know my breed you will know why lol!

:)
- By MADDOG [gb] Date 08.02.10 12:00 UTC
I asked the man about the grooming mat & he said a towel would do just as well.  He said the top was too slippy as it stands.  One of my dogs is bound to chew the rubber matting so I thought I'd save my mum £12 & buy one at the shows if necessary.

I only got the removable handles ordered because they are making the length of the trolley an additional 80mm so the crate wouldn't fit in my boot with them on.  Also got lockable doors which some models come as standard others you pay extra.

I should imagine the cover is waterproof, but I thought it a bit expensive we have a doghealth one that is incredibly good.

Sounds like you're ordering the one I ordered last night :-D  I'm so looking forward to using it, my mother is buying it for her dogs but as she's not showing for a while I think I'd better test drive it for her ;-)

Yes and is vital !!

At Manchester the rain was beating down so hard my dogs would have been drenched....as it was -  I got drenched but nobody was looking at me :-)
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 08.02.10 21:19 UTC
Like a lot of people I spent a long time looking at different makes of trolley before I decided on the Showtrolley  it is a lot of money for some bars on wheels that you may only use once a week, mine has sat in the garage since November 2009 and won't move until Crufts but I still consider it a worthwhile investment both as a product and for after sales service.

Wouldn't be without it even if I only used it once a year.
- By Blossom [nl] Date 08.02.10 22:53 UTC
Thanks for answering my questions everyone :)

Sounds like I NEED everything on my list.  Teehee!

Shame hehe!!

Can the trolleys designed for 4 toy dogs, also be split just into 2 dogs (2 larger dogs)  I may have an option to buy a trolley from a friend and think it is a 4 dog design, but I want it for 2 spaniels?
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 09.02.10 09:39 UTC
> Can the trolleys designed for 4 toy dogs, also be split just into 2 dogs

I have done this once with my trolley (forgot the inserts) wouldn't recommend it, I found it very akward with the four doors and if your dogs need more space will it get in and out the smaller doors?.  Gives you a tall space but nothing more in the floor space.  Why not visit Dog Showtrolley's at a show and ask about 2nd hand trolleys more suited to your breeds.  Thay are very helpful.
- By Blossom [nl] Date 18.02.10 22:29 UTC
All ordered!

2 Berth all-terrain trolley with removeable handles and a cover.  Yay!!
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 19.02.10 11:18 UTC
Hope it makes life easier for you getting dogs into shows clean and transporting all the extras you buy at the show back to the car. :-)
- By pugsie [gb] Date 22.02.10 11:05 UTC
i have a 4 berth that can be a 1,2,3,4 berth and it opens with the 2 doors so bigger dogs can get out if your using it as a 2 berthif your looking for one i have one from splendid pet which cost £450 and will sell for £250 only selling it as i cant lift it up on to bunker bed in camper van as its too heavy for me to lift up that high

- By Blue Date 23.02.10 16:15 UTC
Does anyone know what the weight of the Splendid pet one is.. I had one years ago it was bright purple cant remember the weight but it was too heavy. I would like another but it would need to be lighter as I have to lift it in and out myself :-)
- By Blue Date 23.02.10 16:18 UTC
Can you imagine walking over the field with my breed :-)

Oh yes...I can! :-)
- By pugsie [gb] Date 23.02.10 18:15 UTC
hi blue
i dont know what weight it is i can manage to lift it up into my nissan navara by myself which is quite high just cant manage to lift it up over my head to get it up on the over cab bed in camper van the 2 partions to make it into 4 berth can be removed its the wheels that are very big so probably make it heavier than the ones with small wheels but great for steering with the massive wheels especially over rough ground

Blue and I both have rather white and hairy dogs...think rain and mud...then think after a walk from the car park would our dogs be fit to be shown?
