Topic Dog Boards / General / Picking up Poo!!
- By dorastar [gb] Date 26.01.10 10:58 UTC
I have always used a shovel and bucket to pick up after my dogs in the garden and poo bags when out on walks.

I have recently hurt my back and find bending to do this quite difficult.  I was wondering if anyone has any solutions to this.  I have been looking at the long handled type but wonder if these are as good as they seem.

Looking forward to your views.

Thanks

I bought a long handled grabber thing from Pets at Home, one where the two sides of the grabber look a bit like a wide toothed rake.  I hadn't hurt my back though, I was just lazy.  It works well, the only problem is that the combs on the grabber bit get a bit gunky... but I imagine you have that problem with a shovel too.  The grabber is much better at picking up the more Mr. Whippy like poos than a shovel.

Hope your back starts to feel better soon!

I use my latex gloves to pick it up, then bag it!

i use one of those standing brush and dustpan things.... works well on hard surface and short grass, but not gravel!

I have a bad back so I just bend down (using my knees) carefullly and pick up the poo.

I bought a long handled shovel thingy from the local co-op gardening area. The handle is telescopic, so can be adjusted to any height. It only cost £1 :-)

When my back is bad I get down on one knee, keeping spine straight, then push up with my legs so as not to cause a jolt.

Yesit is all in the bending of the knees and keeping the back as straight and stable as possible. My back went on Monday (again )

I turn the bag inside out and put my hand in the bag to pick up the offerings and then turn it right way in once it is collected. Not sure how I would manage if I couldn't bend down though.
