Hi,
I am new to this forum but have visited many times and wondered if anyone can advise me if they have used Aludex ,only to find their dog scratches so much afterwards. Is this the mites reacting to the dip.
A bit of background. I collected my Patterdale pup a couple of weeks before Christmas at 7 weeks old. The first night home she wouldn't eat and had diarrhea but the breeder told me this was usual with the stress of home change. The next day (Saturday ) she was vomiting as well so out of hours to vet where she was treated for dehydration and given anti vomiting medication and antibiotics. By Monday she was so ill I took her back again and they kept her in for tests. She was positive for Parvo and I was advised that because of her age it was doubtful that she would survive. But thanks to a wonderful vet, the new drug Interferon and a puppy with a fight for survival she pulled through. She is now 12 weeks and has developed Demodex. She has several really sore places around her neck and chin and bald patches all over, although she is full of energy and not at all poorly. I used Aludex yesterday for the first bath of many, but she has been scratching and nipping herself all day, something she didn't do before the dip. Is this usual, could this be the mites dying, or do you think this is an allergic reaction to the dip. She is due to see the vet in a week but will obviously go back before if need be.
I contacted the breeder re the Parvo, but he didn't believe she had it as no other pups in the litter were affected, so I have not bothered to contact him re the Demodex, although I think I will ask for my money back as I believe I was sold an unhealthy pup. (although I wouldn't dream of taking her back, I love her to bits ) I had her insured with PetPlan on the day I collected her, but the policy does not cover illness for the first 15 days. So I have paid out over £1200 so far for the Parvo only, Demodex charges to follow although I should be covered for that. I guess only a dog lover would say she is worth every penny !!!

If you can advise on the side effects of Aludex I would love to hear from you
Many thanks
Sylvia

aludex was of no use to mine. It was both time consuming and unpleasant but most of all useless. 2 doses of Advocate at monthly intervals, plenty of yoghurt and a change to Barf diet did the trick.

I can't offer advice on the mites Sylvia - but you do have some comeback from the breeder!

Awful though it is, puppies are sold as "goods", and if you contact trading standards, I think you have a case here.  The pup that was sold is "not fit for purpose."

Yes, I know you love the pup, and understand that, but do take some sort of action against this unscrupulous breeder.

Sylvia, I have no experience of mites so can't offer you advice.

However, I just wanted to say that I am so glad this little pup chose you and well done for getting him over the parvo.

I just know this dog is going to be something very special for you :)

Many many thanks for all advice from you all, sorry to be thicko, but I imagine the yoghurt is to put on the skin ? I am going back to vet today as she spent all night scratching and has opened up the neck sores so I expect some antibiotics are necessary, having said this, I am open for any other type of treatment advice as I have heard several times that Aludex didn't work and was just an ordeal for pup and mum (me) I just want what is best for her as she has had such a rough start to life and deserves better.
I have heard of Advocate and will mention this to the vet today as surely this has to easier than dips.
Re the food, she is on Iams puppy at the mo.

Thanks again
Sylvia

hiya our dogue de bordeaux as apup got demodex and was on aludex,we were told stress can bring it on and he was just about to go through puberty,so his body undergoing changes.to help him get over the demodex quicker we were told to make his diet as natural as possible,id ditch the dry food and try the frozen minces etc you can buy to feed raw and a good anti-itching/soothing cream is dermacton, you buy it online, not only does it sooth but helps the hair grow back too.hope this helps, roy.

No the Yoghurt is not put on the skin, but fed to the dog to help build up the immune system after being subjected to chemicals and anti biotics and im my case steroids, wrongly prescribed.

Sorry your puppy has been so poorly, and yes do take this up with the breeder.
I think because your puppy has had so much stress with the illness and the drugs it might be a good idea to treat her naturally, have a look at the neemgienie website www.neemgenie.co.uk and look at the remedies on there and you can also take your puppy to a homeopathic vet, this puppy needs to have her immune system built up and the homeopathic remedies can help.
Good luck with her and hope she makes a full and speedy recovery.

Hi,
I searched through many forums looking for info for Aludex and Demodex but didn't register on any until I came across Champdogs. I felt the members were so helpful and friendly that this forum would be the one for me to join, and how right I was. You have all answered with helpful advice and kind thoughts and I would really like to thank you all.
My pup (Roxy) is now on antibiotics and the itching is getting less and hopefully will stop once the antibiotics really get hold. I will get some yoghurt this weekend when I go shopping and have ordered some Dermacton online. I am looking at the options of fresh food instead of dried as I am willing to try most things to help my pup.
Fingers crossed she will get over this and be able to lead the normal healthy life that she deserves.
A big thanks you to you all
Sylvia

Make sure the Yogurt is live pro-biotic, and also aloe Vera gel is very soothing for the skin.

You can get it quite cheaply in horse feed/tack shops, in big pots compared to the price at a chemist or health food shop..

That is terrible that the breeder let you have that pup in the state it was in. I would DEFINITELY be taking this up with them.

Our DDB also had Demodex. These mites are passed from bitch to puppies while nursing. They are on all pups, however its when they take hold and over populate. Bitches which have demodectic pups shouldnt be bred from...

Anyway, we believe our guy got them overpopulated when the vet vaccinated him despite his infection... his immune system got so run down and I believe thats what triggered it. We had the horrible chemical baths for 12 weeks, along with antibiotics for weeks. The scratching caused tares on the skin resulting in a staph infection.

There are homeopathic remedies which DO work...
