I've got the mother of all ear aches in my left ear and the gland on the left hand side of my neck is swollen, it also hurts like hell when I swallow. Never had anything like it before. We had a "working" Sunday at my rescue today with first volunteer arriving at ten a.m., so I pumped myself full of painkillers and it was kind of ok for a few hours and then it started again, it's pretty bad now.

Is there any home remedy I can use? Anyone, please?

could it be tonsillitis?
i had mastoiditis last october, that hurt like hell but my glands didnt swell. i had swelling at the back of the ear, at the widest point of the head. hurts like hell all the time and even more so when swallowing.
sounds like you may need dose of anti bios, if your glands are swollen too

middle ear infection: Pour some garlic juice in the paining ear; its antibiotic qualities will help to relieve the pain. Apply some heat to your aching ear using a heating pad or a warm cloth. Put few drops of hydrogen peroxide in the aching ear. Put two drops of holy basil leaves' juice in the aching ear.

Otterhound!  Get yourself to the doc girl!   In case you need antibiotics.  What if you get even worse?  And all the animals that depend on you?  And who will look after you?  :-)

More tghan likely your earache is referred pain.  Cd. be tonsillitis, I had sialadenitis and had similiar pain etc.

Ahh but you could have had partial regrowth and still get tonsilitis
despite having a tonsillectemy....

I know because that's what happened to me :(
So although went all through the pain of having them out at 18yo
can still get tonsilitis but admittedly no where near as much or as long as I used to :)

Sounds like a middle ear infection,you need to see the doctor,they usually prescribe ottamize antibiotic ear drops if it is a infection these drops are very good and you will soon have relief,

Sound advice as usual. After yet another sleepless night I went to see my GP this morning and it turns out to be a bad abscess on the left hand side where my tonsil used to be (got removed when I was a child). She perscriped (sp) strong penicillin, anti inflams, painkillers and a spray called Difflam (so that I can drink and eat as it is very painful to swallow). If it's not better by Wednesday then I have to go into hospital for a few days... in that case one of my volunteers will take over and move in. I don't know what I would do without my volunteers!

But I hop it wont come to that- I rarely take antibiotics so they should kick in, I hope!

hope you are better soon, it sounds horrendous, i get tonsillitis but not as often as i used to do, shh! i shouldnt have said thet lol x probably wake up tomorrow with it now.
