Wasn't sure where to post this but looking for opinions.
I have three BCs and all wear Gentle Leaders when I take all three of them out as they do all pull on their leads.
Now my youngster member has worked out how to still pull like a train on a gentle leader which is a first for me as it isnt slight pulling but as bad as if she was on a collar and lead. This mean the GL is being pulled right around her face and not staying in place - I have tried altering it but she still does exactly the same.
Does anyone know of a different headcollar which is harder for them to pull in or anyone experienced similar? I have seen on the internet somebody recommended a dogmatic for just this situation but wondered if anyone else agreed with that.

I think dogmatics are by far the best for not pulling around the face. Not sure about them learning to pull in them though, but we recommend them at dog club and everyone loves them, so I have always assumed that they have done the job.
one of my collies used to pull like a train, only age and training stopped her,so i sympathise!i used a halti, but she could pull in that!with her eye all squished up!
Hi I am using a K9bridle, it is fantastic, I have used everthing on the market and I feel this is by far the best.

I've recently started using Gencon head collars. My bitch is very sneaky, if there's a way to pull in them even she's yet to figure it out (10 months on). They are brilliant, and they come in nice colours :-D

I've tried them all including Dogmatic and come to the conclusion that once they have learnt to pull in one, they can pull in them all ;-)

The only consolation is if the need arises it is easy to pull them back again ;)

This is true :-D

Try the Halti/headcollar with a double-ended lead; the other end attached to a martingale (aka half-check) collar. Use the lead like horse reins, one in each hand, when s/he pulls put a little tension on the martingale collar, which will pull back the dog's body as well as the head. Works well for mine who has a tendency to lunge in headcollar-only.
(Erm, well, until he works out how to circumvent that as well).

I would never dream of using a headcollar alone and mine are all attached to theri half checks too.

Thanks for that MsTemeraire.... I always have the lead attached to a collar as well as the headcollar, it takes him less than 3 seconds to get out of the headcollar if he wants, sometimes he does it without me even noticing! ;-) I have him attached to my walking belt too. I live with it - after all, much of the time I'm encouraging him to pull - he's just not cracked the "harness to pull, headcollar to walk nicely" rule :-) I only posted because I wasted a lot of money on different styles without any improvement.
well I have used the K9 bridle and liked it and it worked but found it fiddly when at agility shows. The halti I dont like cos I am out alot during the summer and I dont like the way it will close their mouth, same with figures of 8 and gencons.
Well I got a dogmatic and it works - whether it will last or not who knows but we shall see - nice and easy to use to slip on over her head whereas with the GL I used to get her fur stuck in the clip

I have found that if a dog has learnt to pull in a head collar which leads from underneath you will have much more success with one which leads from either the back of the head (K9 bridle, Canny Collar, Black dog Infin8) or from the back towards the side (Gen-Con).
i have quite a piece written on my website about training aids for lead walking, i can copy it to this thread if people want me to, or can send people a link to the site if they prefer (i'm assuming it is against t&cs to promote the link on the forum)

dvnbiker I am glad I am notthe only one who finds the bridle type fiddly spot with your comments about the different types just as I have found. The dogmatic gets my vote

Im with you on the K9 bridle, its so fiddly to put back on at the end of the walk. I use gencons now, much easier to put on, I like the dogmatic but as I walk two on the same side(and they do like to stride out ahead of me) I find the gencon good as it comes off the back of the head so they dont get tangled.

I use the very simple head collars made by Dajan who have a stall at Shows. About £3.50 each, in various sizes, based on the size of the muzzle loop.
The neck part is adjustable (no buckles) just over the head with both loops, smaller loop on muzzle, sits above mouth and below eyes, and the bit around the neck you just tighten, easy peasy.
