Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / My behaviour - is it normal?
- By mariap2694 [nl] Date 22.01.10 12:08 UTC
Hi just wondered if my behavior is normal i am waiting to find out if my girl is infact pregnant another 2 weeks to go  My problem is when stroking and cuddling i now find that i want to see if her nipples are larger also when she takes up her very lady like postion of legs up the wall i find my self looking at her bits to see if they are still swollen Feel i need help is this normal its the first litter i have tried for and did not relise how excited i would feel lol Any stories would be helpful
- By annastasia [gb] Date 22.01.10 12:15 UTC
Yes you are normal ha ha! i was the same with my female, obsessed with looking at her is she or isnt she pregnant? days before her scan i had an idea she was in welp, good luck, its nerve wracking not knowing. our scan man can pick the puppies up at 3 weeks now with his new machine, but we waited until 4 weeks to scan her.

Thank you i can sleep at night ha ha Were abouts is the man who can scan lol Might be worth a travel so i can leave her alone a week early ? cheers

LOL  Yes i would say you are normal :0)

We mated our girl a week ago & i am trying to forget about it or i will drive myself nuts !!!!

I have also decided to wait untill she is 5 weeks past mating before i get her scanned , so thats going to seem like forever  :0( , but she is a large breed so i guess i prob wouldn't see any outward signs anyway.

The only thing i have noticed & i don't think it's anything to do with having pups or not , is that since the day we mated her , she has decided to have a second puppyhood lmao , she is so funny playing all the time , throwing her toys up in the air & catching them , bombing  around the house  & stealing socks  which is nice to see as she is usually quite a chilled out girl :0) ...... ( not the stealing socks bit lol she gets told off for that )

Join the club :-p I found out this week that we are expecting puppies, after several false starts last year this one was going to be the last attempt. I've been checking her behaviour, her undercarriage, trying not to get too excited, even though she was showing signs. I was so disappointed last year that when the vet told me she was definately pregnant (could see a very clear puppy :-) ) I almost burst into tears. I eventually asked her to stop looking for any more.......... :-D
- By Lollie [gb] Date 22.01.10 13:17 UTC
Yep, totally normal, I am doing the same things. My girl was mated on the 3rd Jan. Trying not to get too excited until we have the scan done.
This will be my first litter since 2005 and only my second litter ever. I can't wait and the people waiting for puppy keep ringing me up as well to see if theres any news yet. LOL.
- By annastasia [gb] Date 22.01.10 13:20 UTC
I no i tried to forget about it but it was on my mind all the time, looking at her feeling her tummy etc, the guy wanted to scan our girl xmas eve but i wouldnt let him in case it was bad news, and spoiled xmas, i let him do it boxing day ha ha! was so gutted when she missed last time, we waited 18 months to mate her again, fingers xd all babies are born fine and my girl is ok, good luck everyone.
- By Jolene [gb] Date 22.01.10 13:57 UTC
you sound in a very similar position to me lol..........mated on 5th Jan, only 2nd litter I've had, not had one since 2006!

I just wish I knew! -- I think she is............she's got really lazy and refuses to go out for her afternoon walk, she seems calmer/more subdued..........

What do you think?
- By lleonder [gb] Date 22.01.10 14:14 UTC
I was the same too, constantly looking at her for signs :-)  I couldnt wait though and had her scanned at 23days.  It was amazing, seen heart beats and everything.  Left the vets and floated round the supermarket.  More exciting than having real babies :-)
- By Lollie [gb] Date 22.01.10 14:33 UTC
Yes, my girl seems a bit calmer, not quite as noisy and frantic as normal and she is more clingly with my partner, which she wasn't before.
She is normally a mummys girl. Still wants to go for her normal walks and is eating well.
Time will tell - thats the hard part.
What are we all going to be like in March, if everything goes as planned, and we are waiting for the big day. LOL.
Regards Karen

- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 22.01.10 16:22 UTC
My favourite thing was listening to the heartbeats with my stethescope, though that was partly to reassure myself because the little **** was hiding them so well it was the only way I was sure she was pregnant! :-D

> I will keep u all posted on any more behavior that i fear i may be sectioned for :-) x

Smiling at the thought!

I used to think I was mad because I always leave it until day 21 to have a look at nipples.  It's usually the day that I notice that they take on a different hue, and I know that they're pregnant.  No difference in size, just the actual colour.

Ages ago I mentioned on here that some folk thought I was daft thinking the colour changed.  It made my day when a well known poster told me that she actually photographs nipples before mating, and again at day 21.  So, I guess we're just queer folk!  :-)  :-)  :-)

Me too Lynn, mine babies are due Friday so got mother-in-law  puppy sitting for crufts, (she loves it) we are showing so i have to go, good luck with your babies everyone x
- By Lollie [gb] Date 25.01.10 07:45 UTC
Going to be due due around the 7th March, if all goes to plan. Same here, family are going to baby sit so I can take my young girl to Crufts, what would we do without family at times like these.
Good luck to all who are awaiting the patter of tiny feet.
