Hi :)
Has anyone on here, or anyone you know, got married at Powis castle?
Thanks , Kate

My partner has done every castle in wales so I'll ask him about it later. If you are thinking of a wedding there then the most important thing is the atmosphere and photo opportunities. I've arranged a few castle weddings and another couple of medeival themed ones that were great fun.
I'll get back to you later with what he tells me :)

Thank you so much.
Me and boyfriend have been there twice and fell in love with it! Didn't think about it again till he asked if i wanted the ceremony and reception there ( he hasn't even asked me to marry him yet!! ). But looking at the website i don't think they do receptions there so was just hoping for someones personal experience.
Look forward to hearing back from you :)

Hi , thanks Karen!
Thats one of the websites i found , but unfortunately i can't find any details about receptions on there. Just details of the rooms for the ceremony. Thank you so much for taking the time to look though - thats a really kind thing to do! xx

Well, he's never been to a wedding there so I'm afraid I can't help you. I used to use a castle in Northern Ireland who didn't advertise receptions as they didn't have the facilities to do put on the reception themselves BUT they did let you bring in caterers and have use of their tiny kitchen. They also let you put a marquee up in the grounds.
Check about their licensing laws as they very often only have a basic license which means you have to be cleared up and out by 11pm, and also the rules on smoking as your guests might have to leave the premisis completly to have a smoke as it's still classed as a public building even if it's hired for your exclusive use.
Good luck with all your planning, it's a very exciting time :)
Oh, OH says have a look at Carmarthen castle too. Apparently it's lovely and he knows they do a lot of weddings and filming there.
Don't think Carmarthen Castle is up to much (in the way of weddings, etc) , do you mean Caernarfon?

Says they only do about 6 weddings there a year - very exclusive! So I don't think it is very likely to find someone who has got married there. Could have recommended a castle here in South Wales but can't help with the North I am afraid.

Hi , thank you everyone for your replies :)
Zaska - very helpful info thanks , handy to know about the possible marquee option. Will make a note to check that out!
Ceejay - would be interested to know about the castle you could recommend, as a back up please. His family would be travelling down from Durham so travelling a bit further south wouldn't be a problem!
If you are interested in South Wales, Cardiff Castle and Castell Coch, near Cardiff, are wonderful options! :)

I think that the Bonnie Tyler video for 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' was filmed in Castell Coch. Looks like a fairy tale castle doesn't it? Another option if you want North Wales is Portmeirion....just a thought! :)

Wonder if they could throw the dancers in too ;)

It's a good job you're all here to help me , think this cold spell has zapped a few brain cells ;)
Castell Coch (02920 810101) is magical and I'm sure theres loads of place to stay nearby.

Thank you all for the info on Castell Coch which I have to admit is just amazing but have been looking at its site and it can only hold a max of 30 people in the room , which is just a little too few. :(
Trust him to have a big extended family!!
This is a lot harder than I thought it would be.

http://www.castlewales.com/fonmon.html Castell Coch is a bit limited for numbers as is Fonmon really though bigger weddings attach a marquee to it. Our daughter got married at Fonmon - near Cardiff airport (you do get planes going over but it is not too bad) we had a gorgeous day and the band played an acoustic set outside - we had a folk group - Ceilidh. The gardens are lovely - and everyone could spread out. We had tables and chairs put out on the lawn. We didn't run to a marquee - that was too much. They recommend caterers - and we had an excellent one from Barry. Certainly an excellent venue. Plenty of b and bs in the area. Fonmon is less formal than Castell Coch and there is plenty of parking space.

In the picture of the front of the castle is the area for the marquee - it really does look a whole lot better than this photo.

I can't find a web site for Fonmon - here are some wedding photos taken there
http://www.garyandsuephotography.com/Weddings/Wedding-38/gallery-1.htm Difficult to do it justice really. We went round all the places here in South Wales and this was by far the best - the one hotel we went to actually had 2 wedding parties there - it was heaving. This place is all on it's own and it is yours for the day.
