I have a 12wk old Leo pup, who was weaned on a part barf diet, which I was quite happy to continue with, although I've not fed dogs this way before.
One of her meals was bashed up chicken wings, which she loved so much she started to swallow them whole! So I didn't feel happy about giving them to her.

I've decided I'd like her to have bones of some sort, for teeth and enjoyment. What sort of bones could I give a pup of this age?
I think I could get beef rib bones from my butcher, I'd worry she'd try and swallow anything smaller, but I realise she wouldn't be able to do much with them untill she gets her adult teeth.
What about the dried bones sold in pet shops? They seem pretty greasy, so not sure if they're coated in something?

I'd be gratefull for any opinions.

hi, i have a leo too, dont know if we know each other? i give pork hocks with the trotters attached although this amount will probable be too much for her just yet, but trotters on their own will be ok. my boy also has pork heads cut in half from the butchers, be warned tho not for the faint hearted especially when they pull the eyes out. the only bones i tend to avoid are lamb as i find it gives my boy the runs.
congrats on your new puppy xx

Hi, thanks for the response.
Do you get your trotters from the butchers or the pet shop, I noticed trotters in the pet shop when I was looking at the bones in there, I couldn't work out if they were cooked or not, as I was worried about splintering.  Not sure about sawn in half pigs heads with eyeballs attached!!
I don't think we know each other as I'm new to the Leo breed and its a long time since I've had a puppy in the house, nobody was feeding bones when my setter was a pup 15 years ago.

I truly wouldn't buy any bones etc from a pet shop.  They're all fried, bleached etc - yuk!  Nothing like raw bones from the butcher or even the supermarket.  Most sell trotters. :)

Thanks, I'll get down to the butchers and see if I can find something for her to knaw on. Nice to see there are a few Leo people on here. :)
